Proton_neutron 1st Gear April 23, 2011 Share April 23, 2011 K5 is not selling that well, that's why the price has to come down. There is a psychological barrier when someone looking at a $130k cars. Given a choice of Camry and K5, at around the same price, I won't be surprised if Camry is the automatic choice for many. Just imagine if the Forte was sold at the same price as the Altis when it was first launched, would it have been as successful as it is today? Branding takes a long time to build. You're absolutely right! Of course, people's first impression on the K5 would probably be an impressive one. But when they ask what car is that, and you reply Kia, they will cast a frown on their faces. And so what if the interior came with plenty of features? It's still not running away from the fact that it's a Kia!! And to pay $130k for one is really bonkers! The price point is the $100k barrier. ↡ Advertisement

With COE at today's level, it is unlikely for C&C to sell the K5 at 100K. It is better for them to completely abandon the car if $100k is the expectation. If C&C willing to take a smaller margin, sell the car at $110k region where they still have about $14k margin per car, the K5 might move. Tough battle for C&C in this segment. Rm2s 5th Gear April 23, 2011 Share April 23, 2011 at the 130K , a Turbo Charge 1.6 from citroen is very attractive option. That option of the C5 is no longer available. Citroen is now selling only the high spec version at $143K there about. According to the SE, the lower spec version is not popular as it is just $10k below the full spec version. I think the Puegeot 508 will also be selling at close to $150k region when it is officially launched.

Caddilac Neutral Newbie April 24, 2011 Share April 24, 2011 people are still willing to pay more for a jap brand than a korean brand. But the fact is some Jap brand are selling less car than the Korean in SG.. So people are not even willng to pay for some Japanese brand already... With more and more new models from the Korean, the Japanese will suffer even more in the near future... I believe people will wake up and realise that why they pay more for outdated stuff
FromA2B Neutral Newbie April 24, 2011 Share April 24, 2011 I test drive the K5 and though it is a good drive, the price tag of 130K would be a hinderance, considering u can get a Camry around that price. Even the higher spec 2.4 i45 may be a better option for a better drive, IMHO. I too receive a call from SE that a 10K drop in price. Sigh. When I bought the Forte last year, the same thing happen. One weekend drop 10K without much drop in COE> In fact, I gotten the car at a higher COE. Though I think I had a better deal, it makes me more apprehensive about committing to a KIA on the spot, wary of the pricing practice that KIA AD has... Renegade777 5th Gear April 24, 2011 Share April 24, 2011 Some wanna change the Kia logo to hide the fact that it is a Kia Some wanna change the Kia logo because it looks boring Some wanna change the logo because of all the above reasons If car looks good, it looks good and if it looks ugly it looks ugly and no logo can change that I don't see how a change of logo can convince anyone that this car is not a Kia and I don't see how a logo measuring about 10cm can alter the looks of a car in any significant way. I wouldn't bother with such small details Of course there is nothing wrong with doing whatever you want to your car so long as it makes you feel good Somemore reason and no offence to anyone. Some people change the KIA logo becasue it sounds like "Kil*ed-In-Action - KIA.

For the price point of 130K, one can get a Camry with some money to spare, and I did not mention anything about a better drive. b. For the price point of 130K, one can also get a 2.4l 145, with more money to spare which offer a better drive.
