Those ppl who can't change their mindset and still living in the 90s, i can only say it is their loss....we don't need to try to convince them, they will just call us fanboys or something.

Yup ur right. In the 90s, MIK cars = crap. However, it changes so much these days.....MIK is definitely much better value than Japs.

if it is the exact same car rebranded to BMW, under the same PML distributor, i wouldnt be surprised if people will pay in excess of 200K for the same thing. Again , generalisation that koreans are a level lower than Japs.

i beg to differ and laugh at the peolple willing to pay crazy money for the percived " difference " . That coming from owning a kimchi SUV and a substanbtially more expensive Jap SUV. surprisingly the Jap SUV spent more time and money in the workshop as compared......

lol. In addition to replacing the Kia batch with BMW, you need to do the following minimum to sell at PML's prices:

1. Change FWD to RWD

2. Add Turbo to 2L

3. Balance the car with equal distribution of weight.

No doubt KIA had came a long way from where it was...But to compare and putting it as a match to a beemer....I think it is indeed too optimistic...is good to be proud of what we owned....but reality do set it....a beemer is a beemer...a MB is a MB...a volvo is a volvo......a KIA is still a KIA ...at least for now.....and i did own korean car before any people say I'm a brand whore....,..I do see the progress of KIA and Hyundai...

has the Koreans really improved? doubtful, maybe in terms of design.

if compare to the japs also not on par yet in SG

Roadsters Convertibles S2000, MX-5, MR-S, Copen, SC430, IS250C etc

Sports Super Car GTR, LFA

Sports EVO, Type R, STI, etc

in terms of handling can any koreans handle as well? take Swift sport for example u drive u know how

good this car can handle especially corners.

Koreans?? No roadsters, convertibles... sports coupe? Koup? LOL

SUV Koreans are still okay, Sorento, Santa Fe in fact i like the SUVS

Korean hybrid cars? maybe in Korea have already i dunno

any comments welcome

You created an account just to say all this??

Anyway this thread is main abt optima K5. Why you bring in Evo, GTR (!!), LFA (!!??!), roadsters, etc. into the picture? Nobody here is saying that Koup is comparable to any of these and bear in mind the price is nothing even near to one of these. We are talking about VALUE, not absolute. Yes, so Kia/Hyundai don't have roadster. So? Its just a segment which they are not ready to enter as they feel not viable at this point.

Take K5, Elantra, new i30 and do a price to price comparison with japanese equivalents (Camry, Vios, Altis, Lancer, Imprezza, etc) and you will see the difference. Admitedly, price difference is perhaps smaller now (or in fact on par) as Korean cars are more expensive these days. But features wise they will still trump the Jap rivals.

Agree,,, my heart is toward elantra or maybe k3 if they bring it in around 2014 but when I compare the omv, my head starts to take over my heart.... will see how it goes when the day come

actually, most people(not in sg), base a how good the company is by their sports models...

so what hes comparing is not unique..

But the OMV will not make any difference unless you actually want to drive until the end of the 10 years. And even so, with $5000 OMV difference, you only recover back $2,500 - after the 10 years. In terms of selling price, it will be based on the new car price at the time you sell, not on the paper value.

I will buy car based on the country, where it is build, but not the brand, if price is not the key factor

1. Germany

2. Japan

3. Korea

4. Thailand

5. China

Therefore, a MIK is preferred than MIT (Japanese brand).

i somehow agree with your statement, their technology might be noticiable in some of the mid to high range offerings. but with regards to theire base models, the gap might not be that obvious. Having said that, i too yearn to own a blue propeller even if it becomes a 110i

hahah
