Beside the obvious eg. ciggy, liquiour, drugs etc. what other common items not allowed to bring into SG.

 

My brother's 'bak kua' was confiscated.

 

My mother's plant kanna warning. Plant allowed but the soil is a banned item!

 

Fruits and veg are also controlled items but the custom officers did not mention when they saw it.

 

My friends like to buy rice and cooking oil in Jb but say not problem so far in bringing in to SG.

 

Anyone any experiences so far?

What i saw frequently are MPVs or SUVs coming in with bags & bags of grocies. So many until the officers dont even bother to check through.

Buy one of those Renault Scenic-type of cars, got lots and lots of hidden storage compartments inside.

 

The Customs people will never know.

Did visit ICA website. Just need clarification. eg fruits are controlled item and need declaration.

But they dun classify Durians as fruits it seems.

 

Plants also under controlled items but the custom officer said plant ok but not the soil.

Just to clarify, those checking the cars are ICA officer(blue uniform). Customs Officer (white uniform/blue coat with tie) are those seating inside the Customs office collecting Duty & GST.

You can bring in Liquor, Tobacco, pertroleum, they are dutiable goods and not prohibited. Thus, it will be and offence (come with a hefty fine) if you fail to go to red channel and declared it in Customs Office. However, there is certain limit per person can bring into Singapore, for detail go check Customs website.

AVA are the Controlling Agent for Food, Fruits, Plant and soil. Ceratin Food and Fruits from certain country are prohibited. For example meat, poultry and egg or products from malaysia are prohibited. For bringing fruits from other country, a person can bring in a reasonable quantity. Soil from all country are prohibited. For detail refer to AVA website.

All item bring into Singapore are subjected to pay GST. Each person is allow certain amount of personal relief for personal item when return to Singapore. for person above 18yrs old, if you been away from Singapore is more than 48hr = $300 relief, between 24hr to 48hr = $150 and less than 24hr = $50. Therefore, if you bring in alot of things but have a lot of people in the car, the ICA officer will not stop you.

If you bring in cooking oil, rice, sugar and milk powder from Malaysia. Singappore government won't bother you if you pay the GST if you exceed the personal limit, but the Malaysia Customs will fine you for bringing those item out of Malaysia.
