A common scenario on the roads.

You are signalling and trying to change lanes. Will the car in the other lane slow down and give way to you or it will just ignore you/try to block you from filtering??

I wonder what are the experiences like for fellow drivers?

normally i signal, so that car A will have time to close up the gap, then i filter in after car A

if Car A does not close up the gap (maybe didnt see signal), then i move a bit closer to Car A. Usually Car A will notice and will close up the gap which gives me enough space to filter in after Car A

Since the day I started learning to drive, the instructor already told me never expect other driver to give way to you even though you have switched on your signal light.

You want to switch lane, do your feat.

oh yes, this i agree.... that is why when i need to change lane, i need to inch closer to the left or right .... for those who slow down to give way, i always wave my thanks ....

Yes, lane switching is a not a given right even with the signal light switched on.

I got to say this:

If you try to change lane and you're forcing a car to slow down if you do.....perhaps you shouldn't be changing lane in the first place?

i have to disagree with you.

There are definitely occassions where you need to change last minute...like heavy traffic, or you realised a little later than you have to take the slip road out etc...

so in such instances, you should be gracious enough to give way. The word here is gracious. Gracious even when you have to brake and slow down.

Am i wrong here? of course i am not talking about changing lanes without having signal lights on or recklessly cutting into other lanes

If no skill to change lane, then better not to drive. It's crazy to expect people to give way to you just because you flick the signal switch [drivingcar]

you are certainly not a gracious person.

petty if i have to say

I gave way to people when they signal. Some are genuinely trying to change lane or make a turn.

Why try to make things difficult for them?

In return, I do get flashed and horned when I signal to change lane.

I don't care, if you want, come and banged me, I'm waiting. [laugh]

He's not entirely wrong.. some idiots just try force their way in right after they switch on their signals, without even checking whether there's enough space to accomodate them or not, forcing the car behind to brake hard. These are the idiots I will never give way to.

this mean your speed is not fast enough to be in that lane yet most of the time.

please dont rush to next lane when your car is not up to speed.

Yes and no lah bro ... ... i find that ppl flash when u do so is 1) warn u they are approaching 2) u might be damn slow.

Normally when u try to change lanes, if the car next to u is behind u, u speed up to change. If it is in front of you, you slow down to filter at his back right? But even no matter how good u change lanes, ppl still horn and flash u one lah ..... some ppl bay song u cut into their lane mah

For me, depends on situation. Sometimes I give way, sometimes I don't. For those who signal, yes I will give way BUT subject to prevailing traffic conditions.

+1...

depend on situation, but usually i will give way.. even encounter many don't signal as well..

anyway..as long as i can get to my destination safe.. that's most important...
