Citroen C4 Picasso

I bought my 2010 Roomster in 2016  for my 11 months of ownership the car kept giving me issues, 

1) Oil leaking the engine gaskets,

2) leaking heater box (coolant leak),

3) overheating at jams(esp JB ones even at wee hours of the morning) ,

4) air con not cold,

5) Ignition Coil up lorry for no reason

6) left Wheel bearings worn (this one still puzzled me to this day

7) DSG gearbox hesitate  and jerking (when warmed up, very badly between 1 - 3 gear)

 

And finally when I realize what cause the top 5 faults could have been cause by a Low Quality OEM Radiator fan (previous owner installed?) which was failing when I got the car.

 

I can say that I am sway and a green horn, 

 

My previous ride was a ES5 Honda Civic... no much problems until its COE ended.

to be fair, all the problems are wear and tear and probably due to previous owner not doing anything about them. Sounds like lack of TLC from him 

 

I wouldn't call it a lemon. It's almost a 7 year old car ! What's the mileage when you got them ? AFAIK, Roomster in SG never got the DSG gearbox.

Mine is a lemon definately a lemon. I driven Jap cars which given me less trouble in a decade then the skoda in one month. it a 6 speed DSG (DQ250) I reckon for sure.

As I said it boils down to luck.... I have two mates driving the same car , One had many mechanical issues with his car then other had zero problems and the car is a jap brand.

 

I would think for reliability index for UK is based on how common the car is over there and whether the car is design for what climate. But it does seem that the earlier generation Citroens had more than their fair share of bad luck?

 

I know of someone driving the previous generation C4 hatch... also had to send back to the workshop for a quite a few days... he put up with it cos he said that was the price to pay for driving a Continental car... but he didn't go back to Citroen for the next car... ha ha... he went for a Golf which is probably more reliable...

Saw your questions over at the skoda thread. The current 1.2l grand picasso is using aisin 6 sp gb.

 

This gearbox is very reliable and (variants) is used in a wide number of brands from toyota, lexus, vw ( passat b7), mini, opel, etc. 

 

For the engine, the design is quite mature as PSA group learned from the problems of the 1.6l prince engine. 

 

Best is that you head down to test drive the car that you shortlist to get a feel before making decision. Buy the car that you feel the most comfortable with/like.

Wife test drive the CGP 1.6 as 1.2 hasn't arrived that time and peugoet 5008 1.2l all sold out. My interest grow again after seeing it selling 109k which I consider cheap. How come you said VW Passat using the same engine? My wife actually wanted to commit on 1.8 Passat coz AD giving a very good deal now.

I been holding her and asked to wait for Skoda to release final price which worth the wait now as COE dropped and VW reduced the most from what I observed this few months.

No. I'm saying the old Passat, model code B7 pre-facelift used the similar gearbox. Most of the current VW range are using DSG gearbox.

 

Anyway, I'm not sure what are you exactly looking out for for your car since you are looking at mpv and sedan which serve different purpose.

Coz I want to buy MPV/SUV but wife preferred sedan.. When we tested the toyota Harrier turbo, thought it's a good deal for 136k then ended up tested Passat when I shortlisted Kodiaq at showroom.

Actually parts for the CGP isn't as expensive as compared to other conti brands. Just don't go back to C&C for your servicing/repairs. There a few Citroen/Peugot workshops, eg. ANTZ  that are so much better and cheaper.

Driven a CGP for 3 yrs liao, the only thing I dislike is the handbrake engage/release button. It can sometimes take a few seconds, which is damn slow lor! I still prefer the old traditional type of stick handle which you pull and push down, so easy and immediate!

With the e-brake engaged, you still can drive and it will auto disengage? Hows your experience for the past 3 years other than the e-brake button?

Quite a comfy ride overall and rather quiet compared to my previous VW Touran. But the fuel economy not very good, I average abt 8.5km/l.

The last row is ok for kids, but not really for adults, cos the legroom is rather limited.

Driving a diesel c4 for 2.5 years now. Current mileage is 81k, good comfort and good fuel consumption, average about 17km/l. No issue for me so far except change of engine mounting at 60k probably due to is a diesel.

I was by my car when a Cit drove in and parked on the opposite side 2 lots away.

The engine was running a while and it was very loud - like a vacuum cleaner.

It was a SLR plate car.

Saw the C4GP at roadshow yesterday. I like how the 2nd row seat bench fold up and slide forward to give easier access to the 3rd row. The 3rd row has air con vents and the seats are decent.
