Tom_kkh 1st Gear October 19, 2010 Share October 19, 2010 Hi bro, I drive Latio too (4AT) 130k km, 4yrs car Used to pump RON95(Mobil), then started to ping. Changed to 98 (mobil) still ping. then try caltex 98, ping stops. Spoken Tan Chong adviser before, ask me to clear carbon on h'way. so caltex really have small ppl inside the combustion camber as claim... ↡ Advertisement
Num3ga Neutral Newbie October 19, 2010 Share October 19, 2010 Talking abt clearing deposits. I swear with caltex with my life. Drove a eg for a year with a 2nd engine for a bt a year then it had a top overhaul. during the period of driving i was a avid user of caltex. when the head was opened i got to see tat my piston crown and valves was super clean!!!. even my mech was shocked and i just answered caltex. And that was from a almost 20 year old engine... But if any1 done some googling. Adding atf to your fuel works as good as using fuel injector cleaners. Dont believe me on this maybe you can do your own research. It would be do it at your own risk. Another great product for cleaning your fuel injectors and crankcase/engine is Marvel Mystery oil. If u googled long enough MMO/Marvel Mystery Oil is also a form of atf to clean fuel injectors and carbon deposit in your engine if added to the engine oil.Plus its at a very good price of $8sgd i think. As for pinging problems i use OWS 360 fuel treatment system. Dont know why but i always feel like im using double vpower fuel when adding that to my tank. But hard to find the product. must go to workshops to purchase it. :(.
Dtitan 1st Gear October 19, 2010 Share October 19, 2010 Hi Bro, Tried up the speed higher, dun like to get caught for speeding in Singapore ($$$). Think need to do it in Malaysia..a long journey to KL ..maybe is better. Think in Singapore cannot clear that much carbon..hahahaha Well for the time being, Caltex works for me so far, but a bit more $$ Yes guess Caltex really got the small little people working in the piston....hhehehe Cheers

Albeniz Turbocharged October 19, 2010 Share October 19, 2010 How does Caltex compare with Shell Vpower? Have been using Vpower recently and almost never used Caltex before.
Albeniz Turbocharged October 19, 2010 Share October 19, 2010 My engine must be filled with carbon. All these years, I have been very light on the accelerator and have never sped before. Always going at a constant speed under the legal limit, even when I am driving in Malaysia.
Ghostami 2nd Gear October 19, 2010 Share October 19, 2010 thats why drive manual, sure can clear carbon hahaa... If not use your od for a journey maybe tuas to changi.
Kb27 Supersonic October 19, 2010 Share October 19, 2010 (edited) Very difficult to find Redline fuel system cleaner on the shelves of petrol kiosks. Even Autobacs, Carrefour and Giant don't carry them. Is there any reason? Trying very hard to look for one in the western part of this island, anyone has a clue? BTW, how does Redex compare with Redline? You just need to go to the right source. I think Autobac Ubi has started carrying Redline product.. Redline is sold by kaiguan, one of mcf sponsors, mx and lubeszone (west) It's hard to compare with Redex, bcoz dunno what chemical they use. Redline SI-1 and Amsoil PI are PEA based, a proven chemical to work in cleaning fuel system and injectors. Edited October 19, 2010 by Kb27

Chevron, the parent of Caltex, developed PEA, also known as Techron. http://www.chevron.com/products/prodserv/additives/tcp.aspx Redline SI-1 and Amsoil PI both contains PEA, which is likely to be 10x more concentrated than the Caltex pump Techron. Car_man 2nd Gear October 19, 2010 Share October 19, 2010 Hi everyone, I'm driving a Latio (CVT). For the past few months, I experience pinging when going up slope and also at low rpm. Last week I changed to RON98 and the pinging is gone. But I would like to go back to RON95 or even RON92. Anyone can advise what to do? I read that need to adjust ignition timing? Thanks Me latio also. Pump caltex 95 got pingking noise. but when pump 98 no noise. So till now i'm stuck at 98.

Robo 2nd Gear October 19, 2010 Share October 19, 2010 thats y i always tell my friends. every once inawhile preferably must whack the bugger. first to clear carbon second to exercise the pistons. its like human being. long time no exercise den 1 fine day need to run where got stamina to run. my aveo 5yo around 90k km liao when engine running one cant even hear any noise. prolly just the compressor whinning other than than no tap pad no belt noises. so ppl. for gods sake... whack ur engines once a while. they wont break so easily and prolly at that point u zhua a little bit more petrol. but after u clear ur carbon deposits u will find ur car smoother and ur FC improves. no need to waste money on wadeva petrol cleaner or such. i have tested soo many products in the market already. in the end my conclusion use caltex petrol and clear ur carbon periodically is more than good enough! Legan 1st Gear October 19, 2010 Author Share October 19, 2010 Hmm... 2 questions I have after reading the responses here. 1. Why would RON98 solve the pinging problem if the carbon in the engine are being ignited prematurely? Why would RON95 or RON92 let the carbon ignite? 2. Only the top grade of caltex petrol would clean the engine? What about their RON95?

Why would RON98 solve the pinging problem if the carbon in the engine are being ignited prematurely? Why would RON95 or RON92 let the carbon ignite? 2. Only the top grade of caltex petrol would clean the engine? What about their RON95? 1. I think you got it all wrong. The carbon particles dun ignite. It's the glowing red hot carbon particles which got heated up that ignite the air/fuel mixture in the combustion chamber before the piston can fully compress the air & fuel mixture. Thus loosing power and pinging. The glowing carbon particles act like an unwanted spark plug in your engine's combustion chamber. Becos a higher RON ignites at a higher air/fuel compression ratio it's less prone to pre-ignition or pinging. RON 95 or 92 needs a lower compression ratio to ignite. Thus a glowing red hot carbon particle can easily ignite the 92 or 95 petrol before they are fully compressed. 2. Caltex is known for adding certain cleaning additives into their fuel regardless of grade. Edited October 19, 2010 by Watwheels
Tiger21 Clutched October 19, 2010 Share October 19, 2010 Hi, How does it sounds like?? Is it like dragging chains on the road or something?? clank clank clank sound? Hopefully my 4.5 years Latio CVT dun have this issue. So far only hear the clank clank clank sound on rainy days/wet road... Am using Caltex 95 all the way (if go malaysia then Ron 97) and will go up to Klang once a year (4.5K RPM)...

Only the top grade of caltex petrol would clean the engine? What about their RON95? The carbon layer increased compression ratio. Ron 98 is more resistant to pre-detonation caused by increased compression and heat due to the carbon layer. So 98 does not ping in your case compared with 92 and 95. Legan 1st Gear October 19, 2010 Author Share October 19, 2010 It sounds like marbles running loose in the engine. Wind down your window in multi storey carpark and drive slowly, even upslope. If it's present, you'll definitely hear it. I guess I'll switch to Caltex 95 first before I go for engine flush.... ↡ Advertisement
