Safe Overtaking

Hi all,

Wanna know whether this is considered safe overtaking:

1. At lane 1, Car A in front is traveling at around 90~100 and there is wide gap in front (about 5~6 cars length).

2. Car B behind Car A wanted to overtake.

3. So Car B, move to Lane 2 and overtake Car A at Lane 1 easily without even stepping on brake. Turn Right signal was given.

4. Car A then high beamed and horned at Car B persistently.

So Should Car B feel guilty?

Regards,

Just thinking out loud.

Not saying that Car A is right to do persistent high beams and horns but trying to think of any reason why he's upset.

If the lanes are crowded there's vehicles all the way in front of Car A then maybe he's upset why someone would cut one car and into his safety distance.

If the lanes are empty and he's just road hogging then he's an idiot.

If car A if maintaing a safety distance from the front car and Matching the lane1 speed, then I think carA is perfectly ok.

For all we know carA is also wanting to go fast but is blocked by the front car, so LAN LAN have to maintain it's speed. I don't think it's call road hogging.

I am in the carA situation every day. Every day I am on the AYE towards tuas. Once pass the clementi6 area, the lane1 will clear up, I will speed up to 140km/hr as safe as possible. Many time, those impatient car that was behind me, some horned or high beamed, all DARE NOT match my speed when the road is clear. They were left far far behind.

What does this prove? It proved that most car driver are just not happy a slow car is in front of them. Most car who think others are road hogging, are in fact chicken ass who dare not even speed up when the road is clear in front of them. They will just maintaiin the 90-100km/hr to avoid TP on the bridge situation. I call such drivers BO-Chi , only know how to bully people.

CarA is angry at TS because the safety distance is breeches when TS cut into the safety zone!!!

just curious - anyone here really stick to a 2-second rule?

Not that i think car A is right in highbeaming and horning, but maybe Car A really adheres to the 2-second rule --> if he's travelling at 100km/h, a 2-second rule would mean that he needs a safety distance of just over 50m. that's like more than 10 car lengths!

Yes I do practice the 2 second rule, for my new car.

It's better be safe than sorry, on the daily AYE peak period, you really need to have safety distance.

Suddenly, the front car can brake hard due to traffic slow down at many exit points!

Many impatient drivers behind me cannot tahan the sight of 5 car lengths in front of my car. But I was just moving at the same speed as the front car!! Not going any faster even if I were to maintain a 2car length, although it might cool down the impatient driver behind me.

Once an unlucky mazda3 was following behind me in the AYE, tried to overtake me, but I prevented it by speeding up.

I have utter regards for the driver skills and car and braking skills.

The front traffic has came to a crawl, and I waited till the last minute to brake hard. The mazda3 was super steady, and he braked even harder and managed to stop in time. All the while I was o bserving my rear view mirror, kudus to it braking skills. But in a split second, I heard a BANG, the Mazda was shafted halfway in between lane1 and lane2 by a kuku taxi which could not stop in time.

The traffic in front of me moved, and I drove off with my journey. I was feeling so happy that day for being an evil person. I was so lucky that shafted Mazda did not surged forward and hit me. Again, I respect the Mazda driver must be still pressed on his brake pedal hard when that taxi shafted his behind.

So you see, the safety distance is actually NOT for oneself, it's actually to give your car a smoother slow down, so that the rear car can have a safe emergency brake to avoid hitting your backside.

Emergency braking is so easy in our modern car, 2car safety distance theoretically can braked in time. But it the kuku third car behind you that will not be able to brake in time, even if he is driving with the best BKK!!!!

car B did nothing wrong and i dun see why car A shld hi-beam+horn..

but the question is why would car B overtake? for what reason? to filter to exit on the right? or just to overtake for the sake of overtaking?
