Safe Overtaking

what i suspect was that because i was filtering left, the car was in my right side

then i filtered in slowly cause there wasn't any traffic, the car must have went from my right to my left thats why i didn't see the car at all

anyway i consider myself to be a safe driver, i always signal and give way and i frequently speak out against my friends who share experiences where they speed up to avoid people filtering into their lanes

but i really hate it when people tell me that i can't drive or that girls shouldn't own sports cars

genetically a male has nothing to his advantage to help him drive a car so it is ridiculous to say that males make better drivers!

unless somebody points out that males secretly have something like a 3rd eye behind their heads to help check for blindspots, i don't and won't believe that males are better drivers than females!

Oh boy. U hv found out 1 of e secrets of what we males hv that females dont. [:(]

i know of a girl/lady/woman who knocked into a wall the 2nd day she got her car.

Actually males do have a certain genetic advantage when it comes to driving. It is proven (scientifically) that males (collectively) have better spatial perception than females. This means that they are better at judging speed and distance. Of course - this is collectively, it says nothing about one individual vs another.

i like your qualifying statement

That means u didnt check blindspot.

that's our third eye speaking, fyi...

This is part of the problem.

spot on

Males are better driver bcos they also have selective memories.

In an accident they always remember it was the other driver's fault. :D

Especially if e other driver was a female. :D:D:D

Yah i know. Now Expertz wil come in n call me a sexist pig.

Well oink oink. :D

actually if the car is travelling very fast. unless you are in NSH which the car is travelling very fast. its likely you did not judge his speed when glancing at the mirror.

i know a lot of ppl just see mirro and blindspot clear then change lane. but did not consider ther movement speed of the car.

You got the point. You are right. Knowledge and observance like yours useful to avoid accident(s)

Normally a driver on your right filtering behind to your left do not horn at you (or that driver can be very busy horning many others, too)

Normally a safe driver would look out if it is safe to filter before signalling. Not signal to filter irregardless if it is safe or not

Normally a safe driver would turn his/her head to look at the blindspots if it is safe (irregardless of their sex)

My carpool passenger (lady drivers, too) commented generally lady drivers cause more accident. I did not ask them if they had included themselves)

Do you want us to believe, most of those trying to help you on this forum, to be a safer driver, are ladies?

Fully agree (almost leaked the secret to her)

Glad that u agree wh me.

There is 1 22 year old female driver who believe 2 car lengths at 100kmh is enough fr her.

Lets hope she learn e easy way n hv a nasty accident but not injured. Otherwise e hard way is being carried away to e morgue after e accident. [:(]

She just kidding with us to entertain us. She has yet to sustantiate her comment that Kia Forte can stop 100-0km/h with less than 5-car length so is a decent car (laugh)

For 2 door cars, there is a certain blindspot where u can't see the cars even though u turn ur head to check. That's why its better to filter slowly and see ur mirrors if there is any car next to u.

Sometimes i prefer not to answer to something which is obviously out of point. Let someone else point it out so e 1 who posted might accept that he has said something not right.

Just to share this morning observation:

I saw a car filtering from slip road ahead into Lane 3 without signalling. I do not like to drive behind such driver, so since it was clear on Lane 2, I signalled and filtered into Lane 2. That same car again filtered into Lane 2. Then it signalled to filter into Lane 1. But filtered into Lane 3 instead. Perhaps that driver exploring how to signal with trafficator switches (laugh). I wonder how the driver got Driving Licence (I hope valid one)

I see e way some SG drivers behave on e road, i just shake head.

Leave them to their own devices n hopefully ty wil learn their lesson soon.

Shaking head can be good practice to avoid neckache

Shaking head can also be mis-intepreted by some to meant consent

Anyone with useful reommendation to share?

Now that F1 has come to SG, we got more F1 drivers on e road. :D

Michael Shoemaker wannabes. [rolleyes]

I begin to wonder if those drivers really remember how to switch on the trafficators correctly (some switched on signal when the filtering/turning already done)

For me when i see someone try to squeeze in infront of me i just ease off n let them in.

My ego very small 1. [:)]

My concern is their brake lights may malfunction when they jammed brakes. I already encountered 2 buses, 2 cars, like that. So lucky we were all travelling slowly, so got the time to stop when I saw those rear wheels stopped rolling.

I prefer to do it by giving e person a chance to do it e correct way.

If i straight away overtake on his left n he suddenly swerve left n hit me, he turn around n say he want to give way to me but i try to b smart n overtake on his left, which is wrong.

Then it become my fault.

I believe if the Lane 1 vehicle failed to look/give way to traffic travelling within designated lane(s), he will be at fault?
