Nzy Twincharged October 26, 2010 Share October 26, 2010 There were other cars on the road. On his left and infront of them. But he could not see the branch falling off the lorry. So even though he was looking further ahead, there were no signs that the car infront was going to jam brake till he saw the brake lights light up. ↡ Advertisement

Expertz 1st Gear October 26, 2010 Share October 26, 2010 That sounds like very poor driving on your part. Turning off an expressway and no idea of cars behind you!!!! For a long time before you filtered you should have been aware of any cars behind you even in your blindspot and taken action accordingly. Some more you call yourself Expertz. well i did check my mirrors, i honestly have no idea where that car came from my guess would be that he was speeding

I was always told that its better to keep quiet and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and confirm them right... I am guessing they were thinking of you when they said that... Expertz 1st Gear October 26, 2010 Share October 26, 2010 The 5 car lengths is not ur stopping distance. The 5 car length is ur reaction time. So if u got 5 car length at 100km/h. Assuming both cars have the same stopping distance, u have 0.8s to react and depress the brake pedal after seeing his brake lights. Otherwise u will hit him. Its not about how long is the stopping distance. Its the reaction time. i usually keep a distance of 2 car lengths and on most cases i travel at around 110 - 120km/h yet till date i haven't encountered any accidents or near accidents due to braking distance/reaction time from my experience i doubt that i'll ever need 5 car lengths, perhaps i'm younger thats why i could react faster i'm 22 btw

So you think that your reactions are more than twice as fast as the average person? If you are so good you should be a top sportsman oreddy - or maybe I should just ask you "How is the Waterloo campaign going Napoleon"... I have been driving for 20 years, I can count on my fingers the number of times I have e-braked to a compete stop. In the last 5 years I have covered about 200,000 km, in that time I think I have e-braked to a stop maybe 3 times.....what are you doing wrong? I've come to the startling conclusion that you are an idiot. If driving in heavy traffic you still need to e-brake regularly you are doing something wrong or you don't understand the meaning of e-brake. And where does the idea that I'm a judge come from? Unless you are referring to the fact that I have adjudged you to be a moron. In which case I plead guilty.
Expertz 1st Gear October 26, 2010 Share October 26, 2010 See, I've got this feeling that you have no idea what two car lengths looks like. Because driving at 120 and 2 car lengths from the car in front you'd either have to have nerves of steel or be stupid. I know what I think you are yeah go ahead and think that only men can drive and girls can't drive ok? listen to your ego more, its good for you, sexist pig! LeftRighty 2nd Gear October 26, 2010 Share October 26, 2010 And how many times has the car in front of you e-braked to a complete stop? Goodness, this thread is still going on? If all drivers just depend on the 2 sec rule or the 10km/h 1 car length rule, we'll probably have twice as many fender-benders than we are having today. These are general guides driving instructors use to teach learner drivers who know nuts about road conditions and going at 50km/h. Please don't gauge safe distance just by the car directly in front of you. Look 2 to 3 cars ahead. If you are alert, you'll know when to brake, even before the car in front of you does. If your vision is blocked, slow down to maintain a bigger gap, or switch lane. If all of us depend on our reaction times to brake, half of us would not be here to post. Hee..the refuge of the stupid, cannot beat me with a reasoned argument, so want to call my manhood into question. Good move. Well, considering that I bought my first car at 16, and have been driving for over 20 years, with more than 200k in the last five, I may just qualify as knowing the occasional thing or two. Further, having driven on KL roads in jams, the CTE, the SLE in jams then yeah....and I still don't need to regularly e-brake, let alone e-brake to a stop. Mind you I do tend to be aware of what's going on around me..... Considering further that I write a monthly safety column that is published, and that I have passed at least three different drivers licences then just maybe I might be competent....
