MAZDA 6

There is no point in comparing the specs of a conti and a mz6.

The moment u start the engine and start driving the vehicle, that’s the reality check. All the features are just the bonus.

The drive is what sets merc bmw and audi apart.

@ Spurman (I can't get the quote function to work properly)

The S90 is a nice car but its price point moves it into 5-series, E-class and A6 territory le. At that kind of price range ($200k+), I'd go for a Lexus.

Volvo always has good safety features, which is why the Chinese bought them.

1 classmate of mine and a senior colleague both drive the Volvo XC 60. Solidly built and very minimalistic interior.

Hehe. I thought was debating on the a6 class category liao.

I think really, summarizing what all other members have said,

1) Go with the car you like best

2) Let your significant other test drive as well, so he/ she gets to be the driver and a passenger

3) Defer to the decision of your significant other

Sure won't go wrong de :p

I read on this funny online page (Australian), that choosing a car is kind of like marriage. It isn't just about choosing the hottest, sexiest, most powerful supermodel. It's about choosing one that is within your mortal budget, comfortable to live with for the next 10 years (longer or shorter, depending on what you plan to do) and is a perfect fit to your needs rather than your wants. Because while some cars are hot, sexy, and awesomely powerful, you have to keep the knives at home away because you never know when she'd turn on you and gut you or worse, burn you to the ground.

hi..well the GS is a RWD vehicle so it handles very well in cornering and better driving dynamics.thus far,i have only felt that the ES comes very close to the GS in terms of driving but i do believe when pushed to the limits, the GS will out perform the ES.BTW, this new ES drives better than the out-going model.feels more planted and the brakes are just as good as the GS. I also tested the new 2.5 Mazda.while i do like it,personally i feel that the ES holds its value better in terms of resale and it's a Toyota. what can go wrong?(fingers crossed)

Talking about safety...if a mazda bangs a merc bmw or audi...which one will survive?

I understand all conti are safe..the doors are heavy..usually when accident..conti passengers survive but not japanese cars..dunno about mazda.

@Best1

http://www.ancap.com.au/safety-ratings/mazda/6/ac206f

The Mazda 6 scored really close to the Mercedes Benz E-class, at 95%.

In the recent incident where a Mercedes Benz E-class drove against the flow of traffic and hit a smaller sedan of a certain Japanese make, the small sedan flipped over and its driver was killed.

Having said that, there are several factors to consider in that incident:
1) It was a crash between a much smaller and lighter car versus a heavier and larger car. It's physics (the law of conservation of momentum if you want to be specific), and the smaller and lighter car always has it worse

2) That smaller sedan was a made in Thailand model, not sure if that makes any difference though

3) The crash occurred at speeds exceeding the legal speed limit on our roads, which again, is much higher than the crash test speeds used

4) At this point still uncertain if the Mercedes driver was driving with certain safety features on his car disabled, because autonomous braking should have worked if not disabled and would have mitigated the crash

I think in general, no amount of safety technology can replace safe and sensible driving. Heaven forbid the only thing that can survive a major crash will be a tank. But in recent turn of events we all know how well that turned out for the smaller vehicle... Condolences to the families of those affected.

I generally prefer german cars to Japanese for their safety, technology etc. but the Mazda 6 is better than many german cars.

https://www.topspeed...e-ar180242.html

U miss out the word wagon.

How many wagons on e road?

If coe remains Low, and fc is too good, grab may just consider these as options, that’s e biggest worry.

Mazda is the only japanese car maker that dont believe in downsize turbo engine...i hope they wont be another kodak in the future... now most cars are turbo charged... to think they call themselves zoom zoom...makes me wonder where is the zoom..haha

Yes...but only applicable to their 2.5 litre engine. They do not want to downsize their engine and turbocharged it. Which is why they will release skyactiv x end of this month in las vegas.

Based on reading the specs and reading reviews online, the Turbocharger in the 2.5L T is tweaked differently.

Unlike "usual" turbochargers that lag somewhat and provide a surge of power when the rpm hits a certain number, the Mazda Turbocharger is designed to start working at very low rpms.

As a result, the 2.5T produces peak torque at a mere 2000 rpm, and has minimal to no turbo lag. But this also means that the peak performance of the engine is at the lower rpm range, almost like a diesel!

So it is likely that the turbo will actually be working almost all the time, and that would mean having to idle the engine a little before shutting off the engine to bleed the heat from the turbo unit even if the car is driven gently.

Pros and cons.

Guess eurokars wont be bringing the turbo 6 in... now can only hope for their skyactiv x engine. Hope it can deliver..esp 0 to 100 at 8 secs or lesser.

seems like the quote function isn't working

quite hard to compare Mz6 to C class. In Europe, their pricing is quite close depending on spec level.

but in terms of size, it's closer to E class

But here, Mz6 is a lot cheaper than C and E class

Yup. Quote function not working.

You can think of the Mazda 6 2.5L Luxury version in SG as equivalent to the Signature overseas, minus the following:

1) The turbo engine

2) Mazda Radar module (so Mazda Radar Cruise Control as well as other radar-controlled features are removed)

3) Heated seats and steering wheel (admittedly not needed in our climate)

4) Rear outboard heated seats (not needed here)

Of course, with COE, the Luxury variant here still costs way more than the Signature overseas.
