My ship is an MCV so not much space to exercise so we had various activities to keep us entertained. Like I mentioned b4, various competitions that keep the crew happy. Basically every single one joined in the competition one way or another. We are grouped according to departments, Nav team, CIC team, Tech team, Officers team and Outriders team(they are base personnel attached to the ship during long deployments like divers, medics, various tech personnel). wah i heard MCMV you guys have to end up eating in corridors? dunno if this is rubbish not ↡ Advertisement Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Adrianli Hypersonic January 5, 2011 Share January 5, 2011 but your corvettes were the envy of everyone in the service then. my time the MGBs were the ruling champions. agree even in LSTs space was also not much & our bunks were also cramped like hell. saw many first timers knocking their heads onto bulkheads all over & having bruises. Some had injuries on their fingers (OUCH!!!) bec of slammed hatches. Definitely not easy to be a crew on board. I spent a total of 5yrs onboard the same ship. Basically my navy life was : BMT(8 weeks) -> BSM(2 weeks) -> IMS(CT35 course, 1mth) -> Onboard Ship(2yrs) -> INTO/IMS(CT55 course, 3mths) -> Onboard Ship(3yrs) -> ORD(end of 6 yr contract) -> Reservist(workshop) Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Yup, we had to eat along the corridors or ship side during meal times. Cos the bloody german who designed and build the 1st ship never tot of a mess room!!! Then ST Marine also kuku went to photocopy 5 other ships exactly the same. But its great having ur meal by the ship side and watching the sea/sunrise/sunset. Then the leftover food just sweep it into the sea and watch the fish fighting for the food!!! Some guys lazy to wash the plate, fork and spoon, just threw everything into the sea. MCMV has a dining room, its a mine countering vessel, it different from MCV. MCV is a strike craft and we travel to various far country due to our large fuel tanks. MCMV mostly ard local waters or MY and Indon waters only. Anyway, now MCV is history already. Frigates are the current strike craft. MCV, COE renew twice already!!! Vulcann 6th Gear January 5, 2011 Share January 5, 2011 Seems like you navy boys got all the good deal. have to agree with you to a certain extend. from my own experience they are more relax with rank maybe due to the close proximity when on board ships. my time they were also not that regimental even on shore. officers & the POs (Other Ranks) mixed around & like to mingle around, goin for kopi breaks at times. when comes to work, thu, all will be more formal & proper. foodwise they beat army hands down, 100 out of 100 times!!! bunkwise they beat army again hands down. welfare generally better all round lo. During my time the MCV is a very big F squardon, even the ship crew is big F too......my vessel was assign to locate the floating dock that bring the first MCV from Germany back to Singapore water......we were out at the Indian Ocean for 9days before we are able to locate this flooding dock. Once we locate the flooding dock, we radio back HQ and MGBs were send to excort the MCV to the shipyard. In LST, we had a proper place for meals, we are able to sit down and enjoy our meals unlike those smaller vessels. We can shower as and when we like too, whereas those smaller vessel were not allowed......Anyway i was told MCV had to ration water too when they are out at sea, their RO plant can't really work..... The ice cream is dispense from those sundae machine like in 7-11. Our current Frigate has soft drink machine, not free thou but cheaper than the canteen. Water ration was for MGB not so much for MCV. MCV has evaporators, not RO plant. If both evaporators are working perfectly, no water rationing is necessary. We have two tanks of water, 3.24tons + 3.24tons = 6.48tons of water. Each evaporator is capable of producing 1-2tons of water per day. I shower everyday and do my laundery every other day. BTW, we use washing machine to wash our clothes and dryer to dry our clothes. Unlike the Thai navy vessel I saw, they have to hang dry their clothes all around the ship!!! My vocation was a hated one so best not reveal here haha combat & infantry-trained though considered service vocation...ROD around 92 i think after i came back from U to serve my remaining time. ya MCV was the crown jewel then & the MGBs were slated to be second-class after they arrived. no one knows you can actually swim inside the lst water tank haha thought u guys like to hang around the quarterdeck to have your meals? the galley too cramp le my time they fumigate the ship before setting sail. it succeeded & serve the purpose but we suffered! stupid rats got killed somewhere & we get o smell rotten meat the entire cruise &**%!!
