Had been seeing quite a no. of Biante on the road recently.

This make me feel at ease :a-happy::a-dothewave::a-panic:

Another questions, how do you all run in the engine of the new car? Thanks

Β

I'll follow the servcing schedule.

No ramp engine, no speeding.

Mazda's i-Stop system requires special battery

mazda-battery.jpg

Β

The upgrade in the product offerings is partly due to the carmaker's introduction of its Skyactiv suite of technologies, which include the i-Stop system, a fuel-saving mechanism that automatically shuts off the engine when the car comes to a halt. It's an advanced feature that is thought to also be kind to the environment, as it virtually eliminates unnecessary idling and fuel wastage.

But apparently, the system comes with a special requirement: It needs a higher-quality car battery for it to operate seamlessly. The regular batteries that we normally use on typical cars just won't do.

"It's a deep-cycle battery that could withstand the constant start-stop frequency of the engine," explains Mazda.

"It's like the difference between a regular battery and an alkaline battery."

Meaning, if you use a regular battery on a Mazda vehicle with the i-Stop system, it will be drained much faster than usual.

There's the option to turn off the i-Stop system so it's not so taxing on the battery, but we doubt Mazda would recommend that. Besides, why buy a technologically advanced car only to disable some of its features? Well, just know that you're doing your small share in preserving the environment every time you drive a Mazda vehicle equipped with the i-Stop system.

Just to share this minor incidence that happened last night.

Β

After cleaned up the interior of the ride, and decided to make right the settings of the light stick and wiper stick as wife always complain the positions hay wire after every wash. So turn the Ignition knob to 'Acc' and check the sticks' settings, but unfortunately forgot to turn it off. Realised it after close to 2 hours later, but too late - battery flat!

Β

Have to call the Mazda Recovery hotline in the morning and was told it is actually AA which is being subcon to do the work. So accepted to pay $58.85 for the service. After 20min, the problem was cleared.

Β

The $58.85 lesson learnt - must always remember to turn the Ignition button to OFF. Sometime while waiting I turn to 'Acc' to lower the window but never turn it off after that. Good thing only for short while, but would remember from now on, haha.

Β

Thinking of buying the small battery booster gadget the AA guy used to kickstart the battery, but laychey to put another thing in car. Maybe if battery flat again haha.

Β

Hope this won't happen to any owner here. Btw, there is a 24hr battery/tyre mobile service being promoted in this forum. Think could be cheaper. Another alternative.

actually $58 to change batt is f**king cheap

Β

doubt you can get cheaper outside leh.

Β

I believe $58 is only AA charge for jump starting car.

Β

AA battery is not cheap and previously need to sign up as member on the spot. Not sure if this is true now.

Β

I wonder mazda can remove the istop feature permanently if we request it?

There is central locking but there is no physical button to activate central lock. You have to manually push the latch on the driver side door to central lock all doors.

Β

istop feature can disable everytime when car is started via istop button.

But to disable permanently, I have asked mazda before and they refused to do it since this is an advance feature for skyactiv technology.
