X were correct to occupy the seats.

Only rude people come in to join the table.

There is no hard and fast rule to vacate once finish the food.

It's wrong to say people inconsiderate.

There is not HARD AND FAST rule for lots of things...(I supposed your HARD AND FAST RULE means LAW)

Giving up seats to elderly & pregnant lady..

Keep to the left while walking on a walk path or escalator..

Avoid Talking loudly in bus on your mobile..

Using your mobile in a seminar or conference...

And many many more..

If one needs LAW to oversee all the above, it sure has lots to say on one's up bringing... -_- -_-

It's a problem in combinatorics. How many ways can 2 groups of 3 people each be seated at a table for six, such that no members of the 2 groups are separated?

(scroll down for answer and explanation).

Ans: NONE, if one of the two groups has two inconsiderate bitches! [laugh]

its a place of business. during lunch hour, even macdonalds will ask patrons to leave the seats if they are not using it to eat... especially students with books.

i guess the proprietor should be more proactive to "chase" people away after they finish eating during lunch hour? not to offend any customers but potential customers may go elsewhere if they can't find seats..

anyway all over singapore its like that.. crowd everywhere.

I went out for lunch at a small place in International Plaza with 2 friends today. This place is usually very crowded and people are always waiting for tables, and people generally finish their meal chop-chop and clear off.

There was a 6-seater table around which 3 people were already seated. This was the initial seating arrangement:

X1 X2 O3

(table)

O4 X5 O6 [corner pillar]

where 1-6 denote position, X denotes a seat filled by a member of the other party and O an empty one. There were no other free tables with 3 seats. X1 was male, while X2 and X5 were females.

The two females (X2 and X5) had already clearly finished their meal, while X1 (the male) was having a drink.

While one friend and I were queueing up to buy makan, my other friend (denoted by Y) sat down, and the new arrangement became:

X1 X2 Y3

(table)

O4 X5 O6 [corner pillar]

I'm a rather large person and O6 was abutting the corner pillar (tight squeeze). Having seen that X at position 5 had *already finished eating* and was just chatting away, I stood behind the seat O6 for a few minutes, hoping that X5 would notice and move to O4 of her own accord.

No such luck. So I politely asked the female in X5 to shift to O4 as space was a bit tight for me, plus there was another friend joining my party. After all, she had already finished eating long ago - although I didn't point this out, as it might have been construed as rude.

Guess what? X5 (passive-agressive bitch) remained stolidly seated, completely ignoring me. To make matters worse, the active-aggressive bitch at X2 piped up: "BUT WE WERE HERE FIRST, CHUKNOW?!" Then they proceed to ignore me again.

OK, fine. Wanna play it that way, you inconsiderate bitches? I'm game. I yanked out O6 and proceeded to deposit my wide and considerable bulk into it, as I was bloody well entitled to do, since it was an empty seat. X5 was now *forced* to move to O4:

X1 X2 Y3

(table)

X4 O5 Y6 [corner pillar]

I only moved back toward the corner pillar to free up space at O5 when my friend returned after placing his order.

X1 X2 Y3

(table)

X4 Y5 Y6 [corner pillar]

During the entire meal X2 was staring daggers at me. I didn't give a sh*t. Incredibly, the X party *continued* to occupy their seats reading newspapers and magazines while people were milling around them waiting for a place.

After finishing our meal (the X party members were STILL occupying seats without eating), my friend at Y5, immediately got up and loudly proclaimed "If we're done, let's be considerate and give up our seats to others who are waiting." I could see this was just to bait X party, so I also got up quickly and rejoined, "Yes, let's be considerate. Unfortunately, being considerate is not a universal trait. Some people are just plain inconsiderate." [laugh] Then the three of us Ys left with alacrity.

So that was my unpleasant lunchtime encounter with inconsiderate idiots, and at least one overt bitch. Oh, and since race seems to be rather important to some people on this forum, the X party were Chinese, as are both my friends, while I'm Indian. Just in case any of those posters who previously made those topics are curious. [rolleyes]

Sometimes i really feel ashamed to be a member of a society where there are numerous ugly practices enshrined as social norms. One grotesque social norm is one too many. [shakehead]

Hi, 3 people in 6 seater during a crowded time seems really wrong.

May I know why you say what you say?

Walao. A unique take on the situation. Thanks bro, you made my day! [laugh]

Haha!

Singapore actually has the most considerate people in the world!

Bcos I live on a one way street, I have to cut from one side to

the other every morning to get to work. I just have to put on my

signal and the car on the next lane will kindly accelerate pass me

to a create a space for my car to cut into.

If there are 10 cars behind him, all 10 will burn petrol to accelerate to

create a space behind them just for me.

In other countries, people are so lazy and stingy and just tap the brake

and I have to cut in front of them. Can you believe they expect me to

cut in front of them. Thats so rude. The space in front of them is so small.

Only a few feet between my rear bumper and their front bumper.

In Singapore bcos all 10 cars allow me to cut behind them, the space behind

my car will be damn a lot. No other car behind me as far as I can see.

Another example is my own neighbour. He was in front me as we entered

the condo basement parking. He put on his hazzard lights and indicated he

wanted me to give him space so that he could very kindly demostrate to

me the art of maneuvering using the forward and reverse gears.

We all know how busy people are and how precious time is but he really din

rush and kindly took his time to park his car. And after all that he very nicely

gave me a wave like a performer taking a bow.

In other countries I have lived in, people just move to one side and give me

a nochalant wave to move on to park me car and they quicky park their own

car.

Yes they din even bother to stop me to show me their performance of the

reversing maneuver. They simply just din have time for me. What kind of neighbour

is that?

Lastly people in Singapore are so considerate they like to make the the door close

very fast so that the cool aircon is not lost. Singapore is so hot and its so nice to

enter a cool aircon building.

So people dun want to waste the building's owner money on aircon and will even

let the door slam in the face of the people behind them so that the nice cool air

does not escape. They are just being considerate to the people in the building.

Afterall who wants to go to a hot building where all the cool air has gone out.

I am sure these 3 example are seen all over singapore and most people will see

it everyday.

Thats why I cannot understand people saying people in Singapore are selfish

and inconsiderate. :D

When I was in Hong Kong though everywhere is crowded during lunch time nobody will behave like this case and hog the seats. The culture is so different from what we have here. I must say some ppl are rather selfish in the way they behave. It's not inconsideration IMO, it's more of self centeredness that sometimes we have to put up with here.

I've lived in HK long enough to see too many types of inconsiderate and self centred behaviour in HK, at least on par with SG if not more so. On the whole it's human nature, just that some cultures tend to display it more openly than others.

But true enough, people here move off more quickly after eating. Probably because they don't want the embarrassment of seeing themselves scolded good and proper. Some people here, especially the older generation, will not hesitate to f*** someone who's been sitting around too long and no-one wants the embarrassment of being on the receiving end of a multitude of Cantonese swear words [laugh]
