What can IPAD do? Just web browsing?

I guess it depends very much on the service provider..... are you on the ipad data plan or something?

For mine... I use my free 1.2Mbps wireless broadband service that comes with my Starhub home broadband plan. ( I just pay a one time charge for the SIM chip).

I'm getting consistently in the region of 1Mbps download and an upload of about 300 to 400kbps. So I guess it's not the ipad's fault for the service provided.

If you really want to check on your ipad's integrity, then swap out chips between your iphone & ipad and see if the speed also follows the SIM chip (or service). That will help you confirm.

But for movie streaming, I use my home's wireless home broadband which is usually in the region from 6 to 13 Mbps when I check using speedtest.net but upload is a miseralble 1Mbps. Good enough to get smooth TV/Movie streaming. But also depends on the server doing the streaming ..... sometimes, its so slow.... even if you have fast data speeds.... its limited to the load on the free service. <_<

I have been using a ipad for a while. It is 3G flavour but its download speed seems capped compare to iphone 3GS or iphone4. Using speedtest.net mobile app, ipad can only return 300kbps while iphone 3GS or iphone4 can return close to 1Mbps consistently around my house. It shows in the streaming of movies from sites like Tudou where ipad keeps stuttering. In places where my iphone can do 4Mbps, my ipad can also only do 300kbps. Can somebody do a test to confirm it is true? I am puzzled because ipad and iphone 3GS share alot of parts or should be more superior?

Another thing I getting more and more pissed is the flash issue. Many of my favourite sites simply cannot be loaded or loaded properly, meaning ipad connot replace my laptop completely. It got to a extent I am now going to ditch it for Android platform.

Hi, Guy,

What is the reason you buy ipad? gifts or face? I found only email is related to my job, but exchanging file so complicated with iTuner.

Actually i do not like it.

Unless you really need to check email all the time on the go...

Unless you really like to read book all the time on the go or on bed...

Unless you really like iphone games...

Unless you really like to surf non-flash websites...

Unless you really like it...

My advise...save your money...

PS. From a mac xiao...

To be honest if it played flash OTB and didn't need itunes, it would be perfect. Esp if you have an android phone as a companion.

everything that your laptop / netbook is capable of, ipad2 can almost replace them.

for functions that the ipad2 cannot replace, such as no CD drive, its fine with me because its not significant nowadays at all.

smaller, lighter, easy to store. OS is very easy to use, many apps available. i use it for presentation or notes taking in lectures. i bought the apps required for work, able to edit docs like microsoft office.

on the go, its videos, photos, internet and casual games to kill time.

i find myself devoting 30mins of my time every night just to use it lol. if you want to surf the internet, watch video or play games on your bed or anywhere else, do you bring your desktop or laptop?

Is there anywhere to work around the RJ45(absence) conn issue? Recently went overseas, the hotel offer a WiFi package. Found a ethernet port, stuck my cable in and got connection.

Turbocharged

How long can a fully-charged battery last on an IPad, assuming one uses it to watch video all day long?

I travel with a travel router. So I get wifi regardless.

I am on 'Tag Lite' plan from Singtel which ride on the BBOM plan on my handphone. This data sim plan cost only $5/month, and it share the 12GB on my main line. Just found a website that has a good explanation of the sim plan:

Hmm... I'm surprised that your ipad can only get you 0.35Mbps.

How about when connected to Wifi that runs above 10Mbps? Do try that to see if it can go above the 0.35Mbps hardware limitation that you suspect.

If its anything like starhub..... the different plans actually give differing speeds. Like my wife's starhub line was getting less than 0.5Mbps so I called up to see what can be done. I was given an option to try switching over to another APN (which is actually meant for their wireless broadband plan). That helped alot and I can at most times, get 2 to 3 Mbps. Of course, depending on the number of users in the area and the load.... it can still drop to less than 1Mbps at times. But that occurence is much lower than compared to using the original APN that is tagged by default to the mobile phone's plan.

You might want to call Singtel to see if they can patch you over to their wireless broadband plan to see if it helps. Then again.... they might not do you this favour if your additional line is on a shared basis with your main line.

Thinking of getting ipad. Where is the best place to get the best deal?

Prices are standard and quite controlled as per Apple thingy. Best deal is shop online on Apple Store, then you save transportation cost and time. It comes with free shipping.
