Mazdaowner Moderator June 21, 2011 Share June 21, 2011 Lucky those foreign construction works never thought of hammering the bomb and selling the shell for scrap. This is precisely how our essential services have slacken so badly over the years, they are now not even interested in taking ownership. And as tax payers, we're paying such, when even we can do this on our own, with no lesser Rubbish from a bunch of idiots.

5936 1st Gear June 21, 2011 Share June 21, 2011 I think this case has been blown out of proportion. Let me share my experience with unexploded ordinance. They should leave it at public area, such as open area. so it qualify become EOD unit problem. There are also many, unreported EOD found, especially at newly reclaimed land, using sand imported from overseas. For small ammo or AA rounds, heard before that some seasoned contractors, will just let it disappeared into the sea. The problem with found ammo are major work disruption, the entire area became a Non entry Hot Zone until they are disposed. Encountered once that a AA round was found, EOD unit cannot came as they had to standby for a major national activity. Stopped work for the entire work area. Called the Explom... but they dont have licence to transport the round. Anyway, they hand carried the round to a newly conconstructed drain culvert at the site and ..... for that $500. At the end police stoodby until EOD unit came to remove it.

This comes after the manager of the site was told on Monday by the police that authorities would not help get rid of the relic since it was found on private property. After the landlord of the private property had difficulties getting specialist contractors to remove the relic, police said they informed the explosives disposal unit of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) to remove the relic. Police officers and the SAF experts arrived on Tuesday afternoon at the location in Sungei Kadut. They sealed up the area for three hours and discussed whether to remove or dismantle it on site. Shaped like a giant bullet, the relic is believed to weigh 160kg. Police removed it later, but did not give details of where it would be kept or if it would be detonated. Bomb disposal experts are understood to charge at least S$8,000 for removal. It is unclear who paid for these costs. -CNA/wk Edited June 21, 2011 by Nikamura

AA rounds would be fitted with proximity fuzes, PD(point det) or timer.mostly timer, pre determined time/height, it will explode. No one in the know, would carry such rounds, as you never know when it will re-activate. And definitely not for any sum, not even $500 dollars. 5936 1st Gear June 21, 2011 Share June 21, 2011 I called before. But they said that they dont have licence to transport the explosive. They did ground scanning for any underground explosives for new construction sites so you see for this instance it is still the govt EOD unit to carry it away, after so much noise and negative publicity. ↡ Advertisement
