Help1 1st Gear August 4, 2011 Share August 4, 2011 hmm...maybe u should ask yourself this question "can you afford/bear to pay the money for 18" tyres when time comes to change"???? alot of car owners upgrade without thinking, and when time comes to change, ouch their pocket lighter and heart pain cos they need to pay more for tyres.... The thought of the increase in FC(and the power loss) is enough to kick the idea out of my head. Don't even need to go to the price of 18" tires.. As long as 18" rim is light weight less than 8 kg, tyre width not wider than 225 mm, if 205 or 215, then fc wouldn't affect much. But 18" tyres quite ex.. Cheapest $170.. All the way to $300+.. Jefkking Clutched August 4, 2011 Share August 4, 2011 (edited) up size 3 inches will:- - Loss your engine power - Need to acelerate more on gas pedal and increase of your fuel consumption, dropped of fuel efficiency & forkout more costs on monthly fuel bill - Rim: what rim you're looking for ? Cheap package (Rims + tires) BUT heavier in rim weight & noiser of tire given in package (18 inches rim each will weight between 13 to 15 kg and are you ready for high rolling reisistance after installed ? - If genuine light weight rim choice should be 10 to 12 kg (max) but have to use consider using "Enkei", "OZ", "Yokohama Advan" & "Advanti "(Light weight series) but pay more in costs. - Next, tire type (Pattern): Performance (C-Dirve, A-Drive, Advan etc) or silence type (Advan DB) ? (Don't forget that by inch up of 3 inches, the tyre contact surface with the road surfaces had increased by couple of mm (or cm) , road noise is higher than 15 inches and you'll also lost some of quiet ride too. (Unless sound insulation and preapre to forkout another couple of hunrded dollars for insulation works) - replacement tires costs: An 18 inches tire will cost range between S$ 250 to S$ 350 depends on brand and thread patterns. All in all, ask yourself, are you ready for the above issues prior to final decision making ? Happy driving.
