Neutral Newbie

Hi, will like to find out on a auto box. Will shifting gear from Park to neutral without the engine fired tp be harmful to the auto gearbox? And how abt starting/ warming up the car in the morning in neutral gear instead of park gear?

Reason is tat i'm having some wiring/sensor issue with the auto gearbox and having problem starting the car in park gear. Waiting for sept school holiday so tat I could leave the car in the workshop to rectify the fault. [:(]

Regards

It will not harm your engine or the transmission if you start the engine at neutral.

The difference between the Park and Neutral position is in the Park position, it will prevent the transmission gear from rotating

while the Neutral position will disconnect the transmission from the wheels.

Both positions allow the engine to start. So no worries about damaging the transmission.

Do you guys shift the drive to neutral when waiting for traffic lights to turn green? or just leave it at D all the way thru your journey?

Cos I heard that shifting your auto gears too frequently might not be good for auto transmission.

I always leave at N and switch off the engine during car wash.

Time to move off, I will turn on the engine, set to D and drive off.

Just leave it to D unless u drive a sonata taxi

Why do they do that? The only reasons i can think of are they're lazy or they're used to driving a manual and have the tendency to do that.

Engine can be start in either Park or Neutral gear. Only thing that the car key couldn't be remove from the car if the gear in neutral.

Actually, my concern is about shifting out from the park gear to neutral gear without the engine running(transmission fluid isn't circulating) causing any extra wearing problem to the auto gear. Thk u

Some at red light push to P n their reason is N not safe n incase ppl rear end u it will damage the gb if it on D. If it's CVT I will leave it at D, rear ended just claim the entire gb.

my experience tells me to leave @ D when stationary mode or traffic light on Red, ' N ' mode not only wear down the g/b, left idling for a mere 45sec to 60sec has consequences effect on gear compartment.

Refer to car manual for best advise, as diff cars has slightly diff tips.

not true....maybe in newer cars, need to be in D to remove key....but in older cars, parking in N is no problem, sure can remove key.
