Basic Manners/Courtesy

what are some of the unpleasant encounters u guy had where some people just have no simple manners? share here.

Today, i was at a hotel and went to my car at a basement to get something. A volvo Xc90 parked and out came a caucasian family, including 2 small girls, and a baby on pram.

I got what i needed and walked to the lift and they were approaching the lift too, quite slowly and about 15m away. I held the lift for them.. and they took their time to get in, as the father needed to coax one of the girls to enter, and the mother was having difficulty parking the pram into the lift. so i wait.. i wait.. and the father was the last to enter. Not a single thank.

Nvm.

Reached their level first.. same, i hold the lift for them, and they took their own sweet time to exit.. i wait.. i wait.. and... Not a single thank.

So PRC arent the only one without basic courtesy. Some of these so called Atas expats arent any better either.

Ah moh are more stingy than they are rude.

They did not want to tip you so ignore you lor. :D

Actually Angmoh is too general a term. People from different Angmoh countries can be very different, even neighboring countries. Not to mention between Western Europe & Eastern Europe, Northern Europe vs Southern Europe, Across the pond, or down under.

Like the the Americans many buoy buoy one, in eastern Europe, girls so slim. Even on both side of the North Sea, the girls in Britain are in general shorter & more chubby compare to the Dutch.

People in Britain also very friendly, but down under, not so much in general (base on personal experience & comments from people). Its very hard to group them all in one.

Just like cannot comparing people from China, Indian, Japan, or Afghanistan, or Singapore, as a general term, even though all are Asians.

Thats my 2 cents.

my personal view...there are two ways to look at this thing...

1) being courteous...u expect others to be as well...

2) being courteous...u don't really care how others behave...

if you are type 2...then ok...continue to be courteous...it is good...we need more pple like this...

if you are type 1...no need to be courteous anymore...the world is changing..

:D

As for me, i will always hold the lift patiently for people to come in and to see if anyone were to say ' Thank you '.

If no reply, i will be the first one to get out from the lift. [:p]

Of course, i defintely say 'thank you' with a smile if somebody hold on to the lift for me [nod]

I also encounter almost every other day on my way to work in the morning , the lift will stop at certain level and you don't see anybody outside. It is either the person is hiding as their partner is not out from their doorstep yet or either that person ask you to proceed as their partner or children or maid are not out yet. Why can't they wait for all to be out first before pressing the lift and not waste everybody's time.

Got lah. Still got people say thank you when I hold lift or held the door, or give way when driving. Just do not expect it as a norm for people to say thank you.

we are still far from 1st world when it comes to courtesy. Its improving, but very slowly.
