now is a bad time to buy car, better wait a while.

but if die die have to change, better to try conti for a while

Jap car now a days quality is so so, but agree maintenance is cheap.

Toyota corrolla altis elegance selling 102-105K depending on trim

VW Jetta about 110K for basic model but full of technology and probably more fuel efficient and has bragging rights of being "luxury". VW not cheap to mantain....not as reliable too

Buying car is all about expenditure. Cars are never an asset, just be comfortable how much u can afford to spend on car per year....work out the depreciation.

some conti brands are very unpopular for a reason.....poor resale, poor reliability, bad agent, expensive parts, disgusting to drive ? [:p]

enjoy the car shopping....it is the most fun part...

It depends on what you are looking for... Design? Technology? Drivability? Reliability? etc....

If for me, an all rounder will definitely be the Ford Focus. Great to drive, reliable, cheaper to maintain than Citroen, Peugeout etc.. and design is not too bad. In the end, you have to make your own choice based on your priority in what you are looking for.

As for the bro who said Jap cars are more reliable than Conti, that have to depend. For Jap cars, I have tried almost all the brands and Honda and Toyota are the more reliable ones, but then again have to depend on what model cos some are not made in Japan so might not be reliable too.

Now its the best time to buy a Conti due to the weker Euros and strong Yen. I have driven both Conti and Jap and I would say that a Conti car is definitely much fun to drive as compared to a Jap due to its stablity cos of its heavier gross weght and also safer. However, be prepard to spend more on maintenance

and petrol though. In terms of reliability, Jap cars that I have mentioned should be more reliable but sometimes you have to depend on your luck too. My previous Lancer gave me problems after just 2 years while my Opel and current BMW didnt give much problems even after 3-4 years... Luck is important.

So enjoy your drive and good luck! Good choice to buy Conti now too!

Hi all,

I am thinking of changing car. Currently driving Lancer 1.6 GLX. Went for test drive to try out a few cars... Which one would u pick?

1. Citroen DS3

2. Ford Fiesta

3. Peugeot 207

4. Renault Megane

5. Ford Focus (No test drive units available)

Seeking valuable opinions from current owners of these cars...

you know what is most important in a car?

1. technical specs

2. driving feel/performance

3. reliability

4. visual

5. comfort

6. safety

7. cost

8. purpose

9. mod worthy (for some)

so there you have it.

you can view videos and research all day, but at the end of it, you got to take those points and go with your heart.

buy the car that pulls your heart string, not the one that ppl gives the best review on.

Think TS refers to New Cars. Not preown.

changing from a lancer to a new conti hatch or equivalent at current COE level. IMHO, gan bo hua [hur]

if wanna change, chao chao change to a luxury sedan like C180, 3er, A4. if budget constraint, i will rather pay $100k on a preown C180, 3er, A4 than the car he listed, which brand new should be around the same price [gossip]

Just realised a used C180 is actually not that expensive vs the overpriced Jetta in the market now.

tats the point, new cars especially small ones not worth it with such high COEs.

VW super premium now since the euro so low [rolleyes]

Sometimes getting high on branding may be bad for career, so I suppose TS has given due considerations to used C180, A4 and so on.

Used conti cars may be affordable to purchase but we must remember 3 or 4 year old car also need repairs to freshen up. This is where used conti cars may not be as affordable to maintain.

true, to a certain extend. but bear in mind that even new cars can be lemon and u can say its covered under warranty, the time to send it to the workshop and inconvenience is priceless. [laugh] [laugh]

luck does play a part. i have bought preown cars more than 10yrs old 100k km mileage n fortunately, they do not need any major repairs during my ownership [thumbsup]

Japanese B&B cars are reliable also because they are bare. I know as I owned 2 before. Its easy to be reliable if your engine design is 10 years old, with little update & lack of features.

My 2006 lancer GLX which is my first car, is really bare, with only ABS & 1 airbag as safety features. I have not much complain because it is cheap. Parts & maintenance are cheap as its so simple & so many people have it. It serve me well, but the price factor is the main attraction.

I am not sure how much B&B Japanese cars have improved, but if an Altis cost almost same price as a Jetta, how can anyone except hardcore Japanese brand lovers (or VW hater) can choose the Altis over the Jetta!
