Where to mount GPS without distraction while driving?

Currently my GPS is mounted at about eye level near the A pillar to my right. I find it easy to take a quick glance at it without moving my eyes too much / too long from the road in front. My right hand finger can reach the touch screen quite easily but it leaves only my left hand holding the steering wheel (may not be too safe in case there's an emergency).

This position also blocks the views of cars coming from the right hand side road on some ocassions.

Any bro knows a safer yet convenient position for the GPS screen?

Btw, how you guys hide the cable for the plug-in power socket (usually connecting the GPS to the cigarate lighter socket on the dashboard or near the gear console)??

Many thanks [:)]

Place it at the middle of windscreen, I find that position most comfortable for my viewing.

Need to lean forward to use the touch screen? ....

I mounted on the windscreen inline with the steering centre / column. THe GPS screen is just above the speedometer. Advantage I see is I need not to turn my head and it is quite reachable by hand. Diadvantage I see is reflection at night (this you can overcome by tilting the screen downwards) and another disadvantage is you lose some part of windscreen (vision) right infront (my GPS is quite small, so not much of an issue).

Cable you can bring around the speedometer console and drop it down next to the air vents to take it to the power point.

Twincharged

i put my N8 right on my meter cluster, blocking my speedo and rpm ... i dun need them while driving. furthermore, i listen to the instructions rather than look at the route.

middle part of the windscreen..on the lower part..gives me the best visibility without compromising safety

Same here... I find this is the G(best) spot and the most comfortable area for mounting of GPS. Cos you could only move your eye balls without moving your head or face while you are facing the road. As for touching the GPS screen, you must see what kind of car you are driving cos some car have longer dashboard from the windshield compare to others and you might need to lean forward abit inorder to touch it.

off topic a bit: talking about voice instruction - some angmoh voices pronounce local street names in a funny way :D ... once i tried other languages/dialect -- the cantonese lady just refused to announce the local street names (eg Jalan XXX, Lorong XXX) by telling me only to turn left or right.... :D

i mount it just beside the pillar and at the lower level...

it was done very nicely...

Personally I've tried attaching my Garmin GPS mount to a few spots before (using the suction cup).

1) On the bottom right above ERP IU. Didnt quite like it as it will block my vision of the front right spot.

2) On the top right corner of windscreen. After a few days, perhaps due to heat, the suction cup gave way and dropped off. Also probably due to the weight of the GPS unit itself.

3) Directly in front of steering wheel. This is my current most ideal spot for my GPS. Easy viewing, least blockage. By letting the bottom portion of the GPS unit rest on top of the dashboard, it will reduce the stress placed on the suction cup. So far have been placing my GPS in this manner for my previous few M'sia trips. So far so good.

Installed near the right pillar near the IU...easy reach..also can hide the cables into the sealing down to the mats...bought the extended cig port with cables and hid them under the seat..nice and tidy....

I notice if I place my garmin 855 beside IU unit, the EPS car park sensor can't detect my cash card. But it's able to determine the car park charges.
