Elmo 4th Gear January 10, 2012 Share January 10, 2012 Can bros that Would like to buy the car explain why so? Its not competitively priced, not particularly beautiful, not practical by any means ( like most 2 door sport car)or powerful? Just to get some ideas. The cayman or the lotus Elise, or the 370z, or even gti & sicocro seems to make more sense. Think compared to all the cars you listed, the GT86/BRZ should have lots more mod parts (and probably cheaper) options. I am stating based on current mod options available for Subaru WRXs and Toyotas in general. With Subaru's flat four it also has a lower CG than most. My 2 cents. ↡ Advertisement
Natnut 3rd Gear January 10, 2012 Share January 10, 2012 There's already a 600hp version of the FT86/BRZ : Scion today unveiled its Scion Racing/GReddy FR-S race car during a press conference at the 2012 North American International Auto Show. The FR-S will be competing in the 2012 Formula DRIFT series with veteran driver Ken Gushi behind the wheel. The 600-horsepower FR-S race car is the result of a collaboration between Scion Racing and GReddy, a performance-products company that has been involved with Toyota and racing for over twenty years. The race car is inspired by the 2013 Scion FR-S, a compact rear-wheel-drive sports car that will go on sale in the spring of 2012. The high-performance coupe is the fifth model to join the Scion family. "First 86" Program In response to a large volume of FR-S hand-raisers, Scion also announced that it will launch a special program called "First 86." The program will give 86 lucky people the opportunity to be among the first to own the Scion FR-S. The selected 86 owners will take delivery of their car before it goes on-sale to the general public. Starting Jan. 12 at Noon EST, FR-S enthusiasts will have 8 hours and 6 minutes to submit their request at www.ScionFirst86.com. BeSpoke Infotainment Audio System Scion also announced that its 2013 FR-S will be the first car to offer a connected infotainment audio system called BeSpoke, powered by Pioneer's Zypr

WIth an NA 2.0 litre engine, its potential for mod also limited. With a Turbo car, a simple chip, you can gain 30-50 hp. Just saying.

I think it's been a while since both makes have released something decent. That's why everyone's very hyped up about the FT-86/BRZ. Modding wise, I agree that a T/C version would make better sense, but if this NA does not win the hearts of the target market, then there will be no point having the T/C or SC version anyway. I am pretty sure that the FT-86/BRZ will just be enough to induce some interest in the later models coming up, boosting the image and sales for both makes. The cayman or the lotus Elise, or the 370z, or even gti & sicocro seems to make more sense. It depends on the performance of the car. Is it really fun and engaging to drive? Can it take corners well? Sirocco is not even considered a sports car. ITs just a 2Dr hatch.
StefanK Supercharged January 11, 2012 Share January 11, 2012 I read that maybe a SC version.....not Turbo Tried finding the old site but too lazy Here is a more updated one: FT-86/BRZ - SC/TC In short, GT-86 will be SuperCharged to achieve 300bhp while the BRZ will be STI-developed TurboCharged to achieve somewhere 270bhp to 300bhp. Personally I will prefer the TC BRZ supposedly coming in 2013. And whether it comes here will depend on the NA version's reception. For this NA car, I remember reading somewhere that the Chief Engineer wanted to build something basic and pure and will 'grow' with the driver. Machiam InitialD when the hero start off w 1.6 NA, play until piang engine then upgrade. They wanted to TC it right at the beginning but felt it would have gone against the AE86 spirit they based on. But I guess here isn't so straight-fwd. Too many LTA restrictions. Will be great if they have a LTA approved TC-kit for subsequent upgrades.

The cayman or the lotus Elise, or the 370z, or even gti & sicocro seems to make more sense. Honestly, i'm putting the GT on my considerate list when i'm changing my ride in around 2~3yrs time. Price is still okay, cayman, gti and lotus def cost than the GT and are less practical for daily usage. For transmission, i will prefer to have a manual stick. So many cars like the roc and golf are out for me. On top of that, don't really like VW design. They may look nice at first, but the looks wun last. Design for the GT may not look very appealing. i don't really like the front bumper. Hopefully there will be a FL or aftermarket bumpers around when I'm changing ride. Even with a TC kit, the NA can't be boosted too much. Like what another bro mentioned, the internals cannot take it.

Serious accident TP tow your car for inspection, can prepare to go jail too ! Na. If you want to play and to mod, this is the best part. Even if car comes with stock turbo leow, there are still many people want to mod and mod. This is the fun part and especially after the mods and taken to the streets. It is just so boring to drive a stock car if you are into this. And I have this feeling, the GT86 and BRZ has lots of potential to push the car to the extreme by many racers be it on the street or track just like the previous EKs. Tcx607 4th Gear January 11, 2012 Share January 11, 2012 (edited) From the owner's horse mouth once claimed, his GTR (R34) with the re-built Tomei engine and TC with >600hp is the fastest car in SIN. He has done 40 lamp poles drag race and none come close to his R34. However, the car is so powerful that he cannot afford, for his TC to kick-in in our expressway, else he will bang the front car (Can't stop in time). We laught at him but he has to swallow the humble pie for his doing. Edited January 11, 2012 by Tcx607

TandemAssassin 1st Gear January 11, 2012 Share January 11, 2012 I will get the 86 because I have fallen in love with revving high. Just feels more fun to drag to the red line; even for normal daily driving. ↡ Advertisement
