BMWs the edge they have is in terms of their setup and handling. Even the Quattro, when i tested it, felt like sth missing. RWD still rawks

you r right, thats why BMW did not bother to launch a "R8 killer". Audi seems to have designed the R8 to compete against the Gallardo and to be honest the "entry level" version of the R8 looks almost like and goes just as fast as the Gallardo at a fraction of the price.

 

But there r 2 flaws to this startegy;

 

1) It only targets the top 5% of the market, the other common folks (90%) are not included; and

2) Even for the 5% segment, this may not work. If they can afford to spend over $1 mio on a Gallardo, afew hundred k is loose change which may not be sufficient to win them over to buy a watered down version of the Galllardo.

 

But for me, I still love the R8.

 

Overrated. Based on the Gallardo platform, which Audi incidentally owns.

 

Why should BMW divert resources into producing a supercar 'just because Audi has one'? Those are not the profit-drivers, the F10s, F30s are.

I agree BMW 5 series handling is top notch, handling a little bit better than A8 and other audis however BMW design need to be evaluate again... Its getting boring to look BMW, look at audi and jaguar, their design always looks fresh...

 

If there is a question, will audi ever take BMW? Look at china, Audi sales way exceed BMW and global sales, audi are not far behind from BMW

 

P.S: I am not supporting audi just becos i own one

Interior, yes I agree with you - Audi is better definitely. Jaguar is the best in look aspect. But, to me, all Audis look same (leave those sporty ones). Some times I need to see at the back what number is next to "A" [:p] . All with almost same tail and head lights design...As a true Singaporean, I can only accept BMW or MB as a top rated cars and Audi is not accepted in that category [:p]

for sure that when one say what car have daytime running light? the first in their mind will be Audi

I quite agree that Audi design look all the same and i dont like that too. however bmw too for some of their model. For example the latest 5 series and 7 series look almost the same esp the rear light.

 

I also agree Jaguar have the best look but i think we cant compare Jaguar to all BMW and Audi model as Jaguar only have few models to compare with.

 

Currently Audi is not yet rated as top car in sg but who know in future :D

This is because Audi very late to enter Singapore market. Premium Automobiles just celebrating 12 years of dealership with Audi but Performance Motors has been the dealer of BMW cars and motorcycles in Singapore since 1979.

Thats a very good question. Audi spends alot more on advertising here than BMW. And i think they are fast catching up. But they lose out in several critical areas;

 

1) Product Segments. By this i mean the available submodels. BMW has so many more choices. Just look at the 3 series alone. There is the 318, 320, 323, 325, 335 and M3s (6 segments) and remember these segments also exist for the higer end coupes e92 and convertible e93. So in the 3 series line alone you have close to 15 sub models.

 

Audis equivalent is only the A4 and A5 and perhaps S5 and RS5.....

 

2) BMWs just handle and drive better. Its the rear wheel drive and 50/50 weight distribution. Top Gear did a race between an M3 and Rs5 and even though the Rs5 had more power and horses the M3 managed to beat the Rs5 due to handling.

 

3) Customisation and Mods. If u go over to the BMW forums you will see a world of customisation and mods available so BMW owners really get to further personalise their rides. The number of body-kits, accessories, add-ons etc is so wide.

 

And there is also alot of after market trading of old and used parts. All this adds alot more soul and character into the vehicle.

 

Audi has no such equivalent and even Mercedes is behind BMW in this area.

 

You can really see in the BMW forums that the BMW owners really love their rides....and many dont view their rides only as a status symbol. If they want status they would get a Mercedes.....they want some thing else.

 

4) Audi does have the R8 and BMW has no equivalent to this. But lets face it the R8 is a supercar with a supercar price tag in the region of $600k and above. Its seldom used as a bnb car. So in terms of market advantage the R8 alone is not going to help Audi make up enough sales to outgun BMW.

 

Wow! Good one! I think BMW is what every "Drivers" would want. :)
