t0y0ta Supercharged April 19, 2016 Share April 19, 2016 I test drove the Lexus NX 2.0 turbo. The overall handling is good for SUV, however, I am less impressed with the power delivery. Based on the specification of 0-100km/h in 7.1 sec, the feel of acceleration surge is definitely not there even in sports mode. This could be due to the transmission which is turned for smoothness? As a comparison, I can feel more responsive power from the IS250 - non-turbo version. Happy to hear feedback from others on NX. Bro... what did you buy at the end? Kalmath 1st Gear April 19, 2016 Share April 19, 2016 you mean you like the feel of turbo lag? I think it has more to do with the transmission and less on turbo lag. The 6-speed gear ratio is not very aggressive. For the fun of drive, I feel the ZF transmission in most continental cars (Jaguar, BMW, Evoque) offers better linear acceleration driving experience. IS, GS. The NX still uses a 6-speed transmission.

Reo 4th Gear April 27, 2016 Share April 27, 2016 Your feedback is what I've always wanted to know way before Lexus came out with all the Turbos. I was driving GS300 (3GS) and was wondering Lexus was not into turbos because of refinement and because they believe one who can afford a Lexus surely would not mind the extra costs of higher engine capacity. There was this techie duke who swore a turbo car would outrun the GS300. Now that I'm driving a turbo car, I can tell you the power difference is night and day than a V6 non-turbo. It makes some sense to own a turbo car in Singapore because of road tax saving but then again, if you can afford a Lexus, why bothered with tax ? I have driven the GS200T for about a month. I am impressed by its level refinement compared to any turbo-charged engine. However, one has to be realistic that it can never beat the v6 engines smoothness. Turbo lag is a characteristics of any turbo engine; so just need to change one's driving style . ;-)

Hybrids 2nd Gear April 27, 2016 Share April 27, 2016 I am on my second Lexus. I would say that if the aim was to get a fast car, then Lexus won't be the one for you. In each of its series, their engines do not deliver the same level of performance as its European rivals. Even the RCF I felt was barely more responsive than a warm hatch (drove some laps at Sepang) However, that's not the reason why most people buy a Lexus, and many, like me, go on to buy another one. Once you take speed and performance off the list, they become very compelling ownership propositions. I hardly spent any money on my IS250 over 8 years, and now, after 50ks, same with the Hybrid, plus that amazing FC, and refinement. These are things the Germans simply don't aspire to. BTW I do not think the sluggish off the line response of the recent Lexus turbos is the result of turbo lag. I think it's programmed that way on purpose. I do think the 8 speed auto was programmed with FC in mind and each time I drove one I found its response quite fussy. True, it is a beautifully refined motor for a turbo 4. But Lexus needs to work harder on its powertrains, to offer more choice. The lack of engine choices is for me the biggest issue with Lexus.

Steptronic Supercharged April 28, 2016 Share April 28, 2016 No offence, Lexus 2t turbo is really waste of money. Engine and drive is so lethargic.
Hybrids 2nd Gear April 29, 2016 Share April 29, 2016 I felt that too, the initial pick up of the Lexus turbos seem soft. Surprisingly, although its on paper a much faster car than my hybrid, the hybrid has stellar pick up and go at city traffic speeds, particularly on part throttle in sports mode where the electric motor helps out. That coupled with the fact that there are no gear changes gives it a slightly 'bullet train' like feel. The other advantage the hybrid has is if you need WOT at NS hyway speeds. But make no mistake the turbo on paper is a much faster car.

At those speeds, the conventional gasoline engine takes over. ↡ Advertisement
