is the A10 still in service? not so high tech like the Apache but still an impressive tank killer with its formidable 30mm cannon.

The F35 is supposed to fulfill the role of the aging A10 and they are suppose to retire at 2010, but I read somewhere congress approved a bill to extend the A10's life to another 10 years iirc to give the F35 more development time.

A10 is an excellent tank buster but not a multirole aircraft, they are quite vulnerable to air to air attacks.

I remember during Wallaby, a lot of SM1s will breakdown or stuck somewhere.... [laugh] Dun know why.

The M113s dun really have much problems and can all make it back to 'Rose Garden'.

My reservist ATEC was at Wallaroo. My tank break down from Day 1 to the end. But they only let us return to camp the night before exercise cut.

i thought all tankees needed to go ROC for some MBT training before they ORD? during '93 and '94 my unit had soldiers attached to active or NSmen units for overseas armour exercises.

enlisted 95. Already no ROC exercises. Only Australia & Thailand. The only ROC deployment was perm staff for the Centurion. I almost went to Taiwan (Starlight) but my OC last minute vetoed [mad]

Anyone remembered firing on moving targets? I vaguely recalled doing it in Brunei LF

what's the difference between Ex Wallaby and Wallaroo? we were made to stay in the field for five days after the final exercise due to overcrowding in the base camp.

a soldier was bitten by a snake, and we saw a small black snake while bathing in the field toilet. [:/]

A10 actually got the "pink slip" during the recent budget cut but I read somewhere that they are redeploy to take out ISIS.

it is much cheap to use A10 to take out pickup trucks than using smart bombs.

Apache are also used to attack ISIS. if ever a A10 or a AH-64 ever get shoot down by ISIS and their pilots get beheaded, it will be the time the US send in the ground troops.

true. but during a tank-busting mission, i am not sure if these planes are dispatched together with the Hornets or Fighting Falcons.

yeah, they are scheduled to be retired somewhere in 2018. a good choice for close air support.

even the experts in tank warfare, the Israelis, learn it the hard way too. their Merkava, putting survivability as their first priority in their tank design is not spare. all Merkava 4 has stop production until they solve the problem of survival in urban warfare.

Nowadays many western arms maker and developing active countermeasures to repel attacks from RPGs, ATGM and rockets.

One such system is the trophy countermeasures.

Read somewhere that ST is also partnering with another firm to develop the same device, and tiagong the system will be deployed in future Leopard 2SG Mk2 variants.

It work when the radar detects incoming projectile and fires a projectile to counteract the incoming projectile. Something like the game "missile command".

Fully automated and transparent to the crew.

In the last few engagements, the allies has always managed to gain air superiority in all theatre of operations very quickly and their close air support only has to worry about the occasional man pads. Even SAM umbrellas are disabled very early on, usually first phase of operations. Therefore, the A-10 proved to be very effective especially in Iraq. The Apaches gave a good account of themselves too other than the rather embarassing episode that is Karbala early in the war.

Hard lah Hard lah

maybe Instead of concentrate in one place

let all the army vehicles take all the neighbourhood road so people can stand at the road side wave instead of all hang around at Padang

can have lots of aeroplane and helicopter fly low low around in the neighbourhood also

This year keep all in camp. Don't drive them to save fuel and maintenance money. In fact don't fly the F15 so much too. That's many thousands per hr flight time. We need to make up for 93 bn....
