Davedesouza Neutral Newbie December 26, 2011 Share December 26, 2011 Discussion / Debate... Have service standards at petrol stations declined? 1. Windshields are not cleaned. Attendants pretend not to ask, only clean when asked upon. 2. More interested in selling their OFFERS at the cashiers. 3. Never ask if fluids need to be filled up. 4. Tyre Air Pump broken down for days at same station 5. Etc, Etc.... All these despite their fat profits!!! But there are still service oriented stations, just very few... ↡ Advertisement

Porche 5th Gear December 26, 2011 Share December 26, 2011 you must be pumping at Shell. You even encounter a pump attendant smoking in petrol kiosk, never attend to your car after you told him to pump in full, this r worse 1-3 is common. 4. unacceptable
macrosszero Turbocharged December 26, 2011 Share December 26, 2011 If you drive around in other countries you will notice that: Many gas stations are self-serve. Not an attendant in sight. Even little old ladies fill up their own cars. You clean your own windshield with the provided bucket and squeegee. You need to feed a machine some quarters to get air to pump your tires. No free air. Perhaps in Singapore, some people feel like they're better than others and expect to be waited on hand and foot at the petrol station. Well, in other countries, driving is more commonplace and I suppose visiting the petrol station is less of a ego-boosting event than it is here. C-K 2nd Gear December 26, 2011 Share December 26, 2011 Well, can't really blame people who expect to be treated like a king. We pay premium here. Therefore, we expect premium services in return. If the petrol price here is the same as the price in the US, I dun think people would mind self-service.

Fcw75 Hypersonic December 26, 2011 Share December 26, 2011 Just pump petrol and go lor. Why bother with all these extras? Perhaps you can start tipping the attendant, they will be more than willing to do it for you. 1 & 3 you can do it yourself. 2 just politely declined. 4 just go to another station that has a working pump
Deckbuild 6th Gear December 26, 2011 Share December 26, 2011 I always reject their service, always pump myself and move to other kiosk if air pump fails, guess that's y they starts to get lazy, sorry for that.
Davedesouza Neutral Newbie December 26, 2011 Author Share December 26, 2011 A few bros here have hit the point... - Yes, SHELL seems to be the culprit! - WE are paying premium price for the fuel here. I understand in the US, there are certain stations that offers SELF SERVICE and FULL SERVICE LANES. Diff prices of course. - Well, not a job for retirees anymore it seems. Foreign workers now. One of the bros, said REMOVE THE ATTENDANTS AND REDUCE THE PRICE. Yes why not.... since there is hardly any service and with petrol card we dont even need to go to the cashier... Kangadrool Supersonic December 26, 2011 Share December 26, 2011 (edited) Why? 1. Due to availability of cheap labour (open flood gate of foreign workers to depress uncles's salary further). 2. Make you go inside their shops for more shopping at hyper inflated prices except those standard controlled items like gardenia bread (if our malls are not enough) while waiting for your car to fill up. No surprise that the cashiers will try to sell you abalone, GPS, cameras, mooncakes, suncakes, pineapple tarts from Taiwan, etc, etc when paying up. In Singapore, those 24-hour retail provision shops are able to get away with super premium pricing of drinks and snacks. Few years back while on tour in Land of Smile, the tour guide was commenting that he noticed Singaporeans are very afraid of 7-11 shops. Many dare not venture inside until he explained that 7-11 stores in Land of Smile is unlike Singapore where your will be . The 7-11 and convenience stores in Land of Smile sell their ware at normal street prices. Did you wonder why they are not actively promoting cashless payments via FOB pass or credit card transaction at the pump itself? Kiadaw 6th Gear December 26, 2011 Share December 26, 2011 If the prices we pay are "premium" then the patrons of gas stations in England, Hong Kong, and other parts of Europe should be treated like kings. In Europe, you have to pump your own petrol as well, & it cost 2 times that of Singapore. No one seems to complain, as least the pumping parts. We Singaporeans sometimes have it too easy, everything except working (sometimes, even at work, so people push everything to subionates), we expect other people to do it, or help out. People to pump our petrol, look after our children, fix the pipes, renovate the house, people to put the plate to the tray after we eat, some people can't even cook their own meal. I should know, I never cook (other than campbell soups, instant noodles, boil eggs, & reheat pizza), in my life until a few months ago. But now, I feel very comfortable cooking & buying my own ingredients, and experimenting on favors.

Kangadrool Supersonic December 26, 2011 Share December 26, 2011 (edited) I'm all for self-service lanes for cheaper petrol... Don't think it will happen here. Maybe, they will impose surcharge since you have less time to browse their other wares in the store resulting in potential loss of extra revenue. You see, even SMRT is also into retail business, what more petrol companies. We are captive audiences.
