Vapourh2o 1st Gear April 7, 2016 Share April 7, 2016 (edited) It's been more than a month since I've collected my 318i but I noticed the fuel consumption indicator hovers around 11.5 litres/100 km. Just wonder if this is normal. I've been travelling on the default comfort mode. Any 318i owners here can share their fuel consumption indication? I'm getting around 9 litres/ 100km or 11km/ litre I use Eco Pro most of the time with coasting function Activated, running on 18" lightweight rims, and Auto-Start-Stop Deactivated 75% city driving/rush hours and 25% highway mileage currently 2500km if you use comfort mode, the car will drink more cos it push out 220nm all the time even when stepping lightly, but if u use Eco Pro, the car pushes less than 220nm unless u step full on the accelerator. More power more fuel. Try observe it using the sports display. But that said, this car can overtake traffic easily cos of the 8 speed gearbox, keeps the acceleration going despite having only 136bhp and 220nm. Patclay Clutched April 7, 2016 Share April 7, 2016 (edited) whats your driving pattern? Mostly city? you use 95? 95 gives me poorer consumption anyway let it go to about 1000km before you really see the real figures. Engine still tight so give it time to loosen up Mostly city. Now mileage abt 1.5kAre you heavy footed? Driving at sport mode all the time?Comfort and sports. That's good mileage especially your are on 18 inch tyres. Edited April 7, 2016 by Patclay

Heavy or light foot doesn't seem to make much diff for me. But I agree lah.. The words FC shouldn't even exist in the brochure of the Ultimate Driving Machine. Gummybear 1st Gear April 7, 2016 Share April 7, 2016 Hi all, Just sharing. I also get around 9.9 to 10.3 l/100km n my driving pattern mostly 75% city n 25% highway. Always on comfort n sports mode. Am on 16 inch tyres n total mileage about 1600 km. So I think roughly we are getting similar fc figures n last thing, I pump spc 95.
Carbon82 Moderator April 8, 2016 Share April 8, 2016 (edited) Driving pattern and traffic conditions are the key factor affecting the FC. I am one gu niang driver in normal days and no problem to acheive ~14Km/L for a 2.4 NA sedan, 2.0 NA MPV or 2.0 TC conti. But in the days when I am in mood to enjoy my ride, FC is on the other end of the spectrum, just <9 Km/L. For modern car, especially those with driving mode selection, it is up to the driver to determine which route to take, to enjoy the kick, or seeing record breaking FC figure. I think I belong to the latter. Edited April 8, 2016 by Carbon82
Sturtles 6th Gear April 8, 2016 Share April 8, 2016 It's been more than a month since I've collected my 318i but I noticed the fuel consumption indicator hovers around 11.5 litres/100 km. Just wonder if this is normal. I've been travelling on the default comfort mode. Any 318i owners here can share their fuel consumption indication? It seems quite normal. This 1.5L engine is used in the mini cooper ~ 1200kg, making it pretty perky and also an easy job for the tiny engine. When used in the 318i, or even the Cooper clubman, ~ 1400 -1500kg, It may be quite a burden. I remember the 1.8L SOHC Honda Civic FD once advertised : " Power of a 2L, consumption of a 1.6". In reality, its more like "Power of a 1.6(in the larger FD), consumption of a 2L" If you do lots of highway, I believe you will get good milege. If its city driving without ASS, it will drink like a 2-2.5L car.

Make that at least 5000km. 1000km is nothing for an engine.

Rskc 5th Gear April 10, 2016 Share April 10, 2016 I have been getting 10.2km/l for the longest time I can remember as I have not reset my FC for months. Mine is 316i, on 16 inch and comfort mode. Journey is 60% city 40% AYE. I live in city and journeys are usually short. When I just got my 316i, I tried various mode to get a feel of the car. The highest FC I got is 25km/l on 100% AYE/CTE on 80~90km/l on eco. I tried very spirited driving as I was rushing...FC dropped to 9km/l. Hope this will make bros that are concerned about FC feels better. I think it depends on your right foot. Nowadays I am always at least on comfort mode, seldom bothered about the FC unless my full tank cannot last 10 days. This will tell me if something is wrong. At the end of the day, u r driving an ultimate machine...let it go!! :)
B_T Neutral Newbie April 10, 2016 Share April 10, 2016 I have been driving my 318i Sport for a month now, mileage around 1900km, swapped to 19 inch rims with non RFTs after the first week, using 95 petrol, start-stop function on. My average FC throughout is probably around 13km/l with 60% highway and 40% city, with 60% Comfort mode and 40% Eco Pro mode. Been using less and less of Eco (and very occasionally going into Sport mode) because it is pretty sluggish during acceleration and kills the enjoyment of driving, and I find the extra kilometres gained really isn't worth the loss in driving pleasure. I pretty much reserve it for really start-stop bad traffic or long and frequent traffic lights. I find that the most important determinant of FC is the traffic condition, even more so than how heavy the right foot is. Once I did more city driving over a few days, my average FC went up pretty quickly. On expressways, FC based on the on-board indicator is usually way below 7.0l/100km unless during the few seconds of picking up speed or overtaking. In summary, practically speaking it is quite difficult under realistic Singapore driving conditions to reach the advertised FC figure. Nonetheless, I find it acceptable for a continental sedan despite upgrading from my Vios, which was slow but pretty much sipped fuel (like a English Granny sipping her tea). And I agree - at the end of the day you're driving a marque that markets itself as the Ultimate Driving Machine, so don't restrict yourself and focus on the FC figures displayed, enjoy the refined drive and the joy of the 8 speed ZF! ↡ Advertisement
