Scoobydoo Neutral Newbie March 15, 2010 Share March 15, 2010 i dont see how much brighter the blinking lights are than the red lghts... Hazards lights during a thunderstorm should never be used.... just imagine during a nice fine sunny day, or morning peak hour rush... EVERYBODY driving with their hazard lights on... imagine how dangerous it would be man.... Actually they are; firstly because red on the light spectrum is the least 'visible'. Secondly because signal lights are single filament and on at full output whereas rear tail lights are dual filament and run at the lower output. Only brake lights themselves run at the high output which kinda 'match' the signal lights, except its red vs amber (clearer). Also because blinking lights catch more attention than continuous lights. But still, the 'intention' may be wrongly applied by using hazard lights in the rain. ↡ Advertisement
Ryanyusoff 2nd Gear March 15, 2010 Share March 15, 2010 these brake tappers are really a nuisance.thinking of saving their own 'behind' while the drivers behind get frustrated by their 'tapping'.causes unnecessary backflow of traffic.it just takes one brake tapper to jam up the lane behind. inlinesix Hypersonic March 15, 2010 Share March 15, 2010 at least better than kana 'push'. just now on expressway with heavy downpour me still kana push by a opel on 1st lane considering the very heavy downpour.i am already on 90km/hr. parkingidot, are you the white opel? Honestly, that is road hogging irregardless whether raining or not. In a raining situation, i don't want to follow any car at all as my front windscreen will get double splash. I usually drive as fast as i possibly. I hav nvr own a opel.
Krado Clutched March 15, 2010 Share March 15, 2010 I got caught on the CTE during the heavy downpour too, what I saw the aftermath of an accident that wasn't a near-miss, it was a direct-hit. Anyone caught in the really standstill traffic on the CTE heading to TPE on Saturday 5-6pm? As for rain driving. I know my Bridgestone GR80 sucks in the wet. So I drive slower. Speaking of which its probably the best time to swap my 4300K lights back to 3000k.
Krado Clutched March 15, 2010 Share March 15, 2010 since when driving school teach to use hazard lite on a heavy downpour to show ppl that you are going slow?? People think: "raining! Time to make myself more visible..." I think hor, someone should start making yellow raincoat for cars...

Leggt Clutched March 15, 2010 Share March 15, 2010 i dont think im doing something very wrong. tapping my brakes doesnt slow down my car. it serves as a constant reminder to cars behind to keep a longer distance due to reduced visibility whether or not my 3rd brake light will help to serve that, its another matter. i do this at intervals, even if theres no other car behind. im not slowing down my car then speed up again, rinse and repeat. everyone doesnt want to get rear ended, be it good weather or bad weather. so most of us will try to do something extra if needed, esp during heavy downpours, just to reduce the chances of an accident occurring. if you think singaporean drivers become lousy drivers during a rain, stay at home next time, check the weather forecast first. because if it rains, you might see clowns and elephants on the roads. On a fair note, just think of this. You tap your brakes, the car behind u have to do likewise becoz he will not know how much brake you are going to assert, the brakelight does not tell. And so it goes on for the car behind the car behind u. Amplified it a hundred times and we will have a blood jam, rite?

Rachaellee Neutral Newbie March 15, 2010 Share March 15, 2010 Strange... why can't just drive slower and turn on your lights instead of hazard lights or even tapping brakes?????
Hermitage 1st Gear March 15, 2010 Share March 15, 2010 Hazard lights are for stopped vehicles...period!! And be it rain or shine, if a faster vehicle comes up behind you, move over to the left and give way ya fcukin' ROADHOG!!!

And so it goes on for the car behind the car behind u. Amplified it a hundred times and we will have a blood jam, rite? i understand what you mean. if i see a dim source of light behind me under the heavy downpour, meaning a car is following behind me, i wouldnt tap my brakes at regular intervals of say 1min each time to warn off any incoming cars, that i worry might not be able to see my brake lights. my intention is to serve as an advance warning, to cars, if any, that are travelling and coming up to the back of my car next, not to existing cars behind me. anyway, i travel on the 3rd lane during a heavy downpour and still try to keep to the speed limit if traffic allows. and during a heavy downpour leading to reduced visibility, common sense is to keep a longer distance right? but longer distance means indirectly putting more amount of rain between you and the car infront, which reduces visibility to see him. my megane cabriolet brake lights arent very bright in a heavy rain by default & design as told by a friend so i think i end up worry more than usual. So_nice 6th Gear March 15, 2010 Share March 15, 2010 renault megane should haf rear foggies rite? actually i dun really turn on my rear foggies unless the road condition is really bad. how to gauge? if u can barely see the front car brake lights then its time to on it. i'm quite amazed by some drivers whom refused to switch on their lights. does it hurts to do it? I used to drive the first generation megane seven years ago. Good car actually, there is a feature to turn on the left errr.....or right side of the hind fog lights, that is sufficient. And believe me, anyone that wants to get up close and personal with you during these stormy weather will have the confidence to do so. Singapore drivers are "watch your front" drivers. I know - my old man was like that... His "rationale" was that he could see the road well enough, why need to on his headlight...I was like???? Then I explained to him that turning on his headlight (and rear light) is more for others to see his car, be it from the front or rear... Of course, another "concern" most people have over the constant use of their headlights is the premature wearing out of the bulbs as well as their car batteries...I am also like???!!! Which is why I chose to buy LED bulbs to replace the original T10/20 ones all round and Philips for the main lamps... I can "hao lian" my lights and stay safe at the same time. ↡ Advertisement
