Not worth it's $240k selling price...some more using 4 cylinders Camry Engine....should at least put a V-6 engine to sweeten the deal.

the Lexus sales man told me, "entry level is like that one, same for the BMW, Audi, Merce and Jaguar, all 4 cyclinder-- to keep cost down".

But the question,a 4 cylinders engine + 6 speed Autobox from Camry.?..a bit too cheapskate.

Basically a glorified Camry lah. I have a sneaking suspicion that Toyota designers deliberately designed the Camry to be so obiang, so that potential customers will just pay the extra and get the Lexus ES250/ ES300h.

The rear legroom in the ES is impressive, but other than that, it drives pretty much like the Camry. Thus, imho, it's just a glorified Camry to me.

Selling price although 238k for the hybrid

Over trade amount is as high as 37-39k

Profit for es300 h is about 30-32k , not the 65-70k

This is wat I gather from a buddy who bought it recently

My buddy bought the hybrid executive Not the luxury version.

You mentioned $257k , so wat was the final price you paid then ? I suppose you bought it when it was launched...so that commands a premium, as usual.

I am tempted to consider this hybrid as well as my current ride is due for scrap in a few months.

Any problems so far with this ES hybrid ??

Hi Cagelee, overall oklah, no problems, reliable.....But take note of my observation below.

?Engine sensor replaced once, FOC (engine check light activated), didnt expect this from lexus.

Fuel consumption - not as good as advertised, averages 16-17km/L instead of >18. Full tank never exceed 1000km range, usually 850-950km per full tank.

Head rest (both front passengers and rear seat passengers) designs felt a bit uncomfortable, a bit flexion forward in my opinion (head need to face downward a bit)

Autotailgate/boot - unable to remotely closed from inside the car (driver seat) or using remote key. Need to press the button on the bootlid.

Also boot size is not that big, and not able to fold down rear seat (to carry long objects).

Acceleration is good even in ECO mode, can spin front tyres easily in Sport mode. Transmission is super smooth, one of the best in my opinion.

Mark Levinson sound system is also superb - better than currently available RX450H and Older GS300 model.

Blind spot monitor is very useful - can detect bikes as well as cars at blind spot.

Rear door side window blind is a bit flimsy, not well made, prefer it to be motorised/electric instead of manual too.

Navigation map is outdated - eg no MCE, no new maps from Borneo motors available. Safety feature is a let down, many choices not available once car is moving. Feel that it is more dangerous to stop the car just to use the navigation.

Only the front fog lamp is LED, the headlight is the standard HID/xenon which is not as white.

Rear seat space leg room is cavernous - as good as mercedes S class W221

Telephone - voice activation not reliable, almost impractical, have to use manual search.

Irritating Memory seat safety feature which is deactivated when 1) car in motion 2) Gear is engaged ie person in the passenger seat cannot use the memory feature while the car is moving or D engaged.

DVD player - till now, not available to find software/bypass module to enable watching DVD while car is moving (for front seat passenger)

Reverse camera with active movable guidelines is v accurate. All round sonar sensor is useful too.

Unable to opt for panaromic roof for hybrid model is a letdown.

Stock tyres is slippery on rainy days, probably middle range version, will GR100 if need to replace.

Faint but audible clonk sound on reversing and braking (hybrid feature), likely inherent.

Alphard96,

Thank you for penning down in details your personal experience of the car. Greatly appreciated.

It is very helpful to us folks to hear from actual owners.

I am more swayed to this car now !

Thanks!!!

I sat in the ES hybrid once when I went for servicing at BM. with the engine on and gear in P, it is like totally silent in the cabin. only hear the aircon blowing. I would think the bridgstone GR100 will be the right tyre for this car.

today's ST life referred to the ES as a "value-for-money premium sedan". my first instinct was, zhun bo.

then i look at this price list on sgcarmart (as of 20 Dec):

http://www.sgcarmart.com/new_cars/newcars_listing.php?MOD=Lexus

and i realised why. it doesn't make sense to me. looking at only hybrid models, the ES300h is starting at 240k. the IS300h starts only 4k cheaper at 236k. the GS450h starts at 343k, which is a whole 103k more.

not saying the ES is cheap by any means, but anyone can explain why ah?

because lexus dealer wants him to write it this way. Local ST writer has no credibility when it comes to writing about truth,
