Evillusion Supersonic July 6, 2017 Share July 6, 2017 (edited) i changed all 4 but i traded in the car like 1 year + later. So not so hua lol. But the labour cost for changing 2 vs 4 in SG is not much. It's easier to detect the shock absorber failed cos it will be leaking fluid which the mechanics can see easily. The rubber things, usually get chui after sometime, so the mechanics/stockists will rec to change at the same time. cos labour cost to take out again is the same. SG workshop would sure tell you to change everything if they have their way......lol....serious! Aircon spoil.....change pump......radiator fan not working..... change the radiator ......thats how they cover their high rental. I even asked the proton mech if he was sure that i only need to change the mounting.....he said yes....my suspension still okay and till now they are still working fine. I kana from a well-known ws before. My clutch pedal was squeeking and the se told me my dont-know-what pump need to change....cost $400. I went home took some grease and slapped it into one of the linkage connecting the clutch to a shaft which holds a spring. Squeek disappeared and no damaged to my pocket. There's a line in the service industry. "The customer will appreciate you trying to save him money less than he will scold you if he needs to come back again a 2nd time" It's a hard truth. Fcw75 Hypersonic July 6, 2017 Share July 6, 2017 (edited) the suspension was checked by proton mechanics....they even took out the suspension and springs to check for leaks. They found none but found the mounting damaged. They told me my suspension was okay.....just need to change the mounting.......been 3 yrs oredy since i changed them and my tyres are wearing down evenly. Ps. Need to change in pairs. I changed the front pairs! SG workshop sure say change together.....thats how they survive! Actually I trust my workshop. Know him for over 10 years. My shock absorbers never changed before for almost 10 years. So I guess it's good to change all together since I am renewing COE. For my case, it make sense. Imagine I purely changed the shock absorber and don't change other parts. What if the mounting got problem later on? Means I have to pay extra labor charge to take out the shock absorber to change the mounting. Still have to do wheel alignment again since shock absorbers taken out. It's similar to why people changed water pump together with timing belt even if pump not spoilt. Edited July 6, 2017 by Fcw75

I really dont mind going to a ws twice....sometime problems cant be diagnosed within one visit but we as motorists should know when we are taken for a ride and thats when some mechanical background comes in handy. doraemon69sg 1st Gear July 7, 2017 Share July 7, 2017 To all bros, thank you so much for your kind and invaluable suggestions! I just want to have more information because "ignorance is not bliss". Of course, workshops need to have profit margins to sustain businesses, but not to the extent of "chop carrot".

ChengXuan Neutral Newbie January 10, 2019 Share January 10, 2019 Hello all. I am in need to replace my shock absorbers as going through humps and uneven road surface is causing too much shake in the car.Auto**** quoted me $2050 for Audi stock shock absorbers for both front and rear pair, absorber mounting, stopper, bearing, cover, and 1 year warranty. However, another workshop *** quoted me just $1200 for Audi stock shock absorbers (with installation) and that's all was mentioned.Who is the carrot chopper? is $2050 legit? The workshop only took 30 min to change with 2 workers. I think the price is pretty okay. Bro, can PM your workshop? I need to get my car checked cos there is a clunking sound when driving over uneven surfaces at low to mid speeds as well as going over hump. The AutoServ at the Shell near my place just said replace the whole shock absorber set with suspension link, mounting, cover, etc, both sides $1540 with installation... I think that's a bit much and they said the bushings not the problem... not sure if they just change for the sake of it to eliminate the problem or it is really necessary... they said the shock absorber today can't check if leaking cos the car undercarriage all wet... Based on my earlier repair of rear and front suspensions for my Toyota Vios, around $1.1k should be enough for this model. I am not sure what is your car model. Normally, petrol station workshops charge a slight premium of 10-20% compared to normal workshops. You pay a premium for the convenience. Thanks bro! Mine is a Hyundai Sonata LF 2.0... I changed a lot of parts hence the cost... the shocks themselves aren't too expensive...
Mkl22 Supersonic November 6, 2023 Share November 6, 2023 i have recently bought a pair of rear shocks from amazon. about $200 for a pair shipped. these are KYB lowfer shocks. now pending delivery for a pair of fronts. even KYB SR specials are much cheaper than what can be obtained locally. the only caveat is long delivery times. my 1st pair took about 6weeks before being shipped which it then arrived in 3-4days. have been waiting close to 2 months for the front pair to be confirmed to be shipped. stevenzhu1981 Neutral Newbie November 7, 2023 Share November 7, 2023 I only know the cost of replace the clutch release bearing, not only for passenger cars and heacy duty, commercial trucks which called pneumatic cutch actuator. I usually buy from online www.tzclutch.com,then bring it to the repair workshop,it's much competitive.
