I did saw cyclist beat red light at kranji / sungei kadut on night time and cause other vehicle jam brake. The bicycle without any light and some more is India guy. Police and lta must do something about it. Be fair to drivers.

Are you sure about this? I dread to think that I have to jam brake to give way for a cyclist suddenly appearing on the outer most lane because he was trying to get to the right most lane in a 3 lane road (e.g. Bt Timah) to exit at a right side junction. There would be pandemonium on the road!

Well, i would take it as bias unless it is a personal experience. Without real life experience, could you really see it from cyclist perspective?

Really? I commute daily. 20km each way. Case of choosing your route. Around 16km of mine is PCN, and 3km is light traffic roads (some of it is 3 lane roads that have no cars on it - this is stretch from Marina Barrage past Gardens by the Bay), only 1km is busy but the traffic is usually jammed up not moving.

I have got videos of cyclist blatantly crossing red lights as well and riding when there is a moving motorised vehicle to their left (clear offence for them).

 

TP charging motorist for not keeping to 1.5 meters beside a cyclist? This is new. So, all cyclist now carries video cameras just like cars already.

 

I have many videos of cyclists stopping at red lights and also many videos of cars blatantly running the red lights. Its impossible that everyone will follow the law la. Its not illegal for cyclists to ride on the right of the motorised vehicle if they need to turn right or they are overtaking a slower vehicle. I often have to overtake the SBS buses and it will be illegal and impossible to overtake from the left.

 

Its not new that overtaking with too closely is dangerous or inconsiderate even if the driver overtakes with more than 1.5m gap but swerves back in just to get back at the cyclist, if the cyclist has a video he can report the driver. It is not limited to cyclists anyway. If you drive and a motorcycle lane split and squeeze between two cars to get ahead, TP will take action also. Just that not many cyclists have a camera on their bike. I happened to get a good deal so I have one video cam for the front and one for the back. Occasionally have one on my helmet as well.

Actually a lot. They should get a license plate just same as vehicle n motor. Pay road tax also.

Road tax is based on engine capacity. It really should have the name changed to Engine Capacity Tax to prevent confusion.

He went straight. Even though if he intends to turn right , there is a traffic light 50m down . He could just use that to cross the road. I do not know if is legal to cycle on the road or even the right lane . That is why I classified him as "inconsiderate"

If he went straight then he was wrong to cycle on the right unless he was overtaking another vehicle. If he is turning right then it is legal for him to cycle on the right lane. It is illegal for him to cycle across the pedestrian crossing. If he uses the pedestrian crossing he will need to dismount and push across.

 

For me usually I will use the right lane to turn right unless traffic is really heavy and I am not able to filter out easily. Then I'll just use the pedestrian crossing to push my bike across.

Oh I see . So cycling on the road is legal ? And cycling on the right lane with the intention to turn right is legal too ?? So what is the legal distance for the cyclist to keep on the right lane before he turns right ???

If there is no legal distance stated , than every cyclist will say they will be turning right later at 1000m ahead.

As long as irresponsible cyclists choose to toy with their life and limbs, let them be. No amount of explanation can get into their thick numb skull.

 

As a cyclist myself, i ensure personal and 3rd party safety when i ride. I just don't understand what's so difficult in practising safe, considerate, and responsible riding. Why the need to prove one's rights and challenge drivers on the road and challenge pedestrians on foothpaths? Why the need to invite risks?

 

Is it because of.... Ego? Identity crisis? Low self esteem? Insecurity? Attention seeking? Childishness? Immaturity? Ignorance? Indifferent attitude? Stupid?

 

How are you as a bloody gangho irresponsible cyclist going to cycle in future when you become paralysed? When you lose a limb or all limbs? When you lose your sight? When you become comatose? Is it worth the challenge? Is it worth showing off and talking big who is right or wrong? Or you believe you can continue cycling in your ICU ward or after world?

 

I once cycled passed a group of other cyclists at night. I use the bell as and when i sense risk. I had my headlights and rearlights on. My lights are super bright LED lights because I cycle in a heavy vehicle infested Jurong area where i onced lived.

 

I was laughed at and called kiasu. I stopped and ask them why not with bright lights. I asked them why they had puny invisible lights on their 10K 20K bikes. (Some had no lights. And all had no bells). One of them told me that it destroys the beauty of their bike. He does not want to be a mobile christmas tree. He said he does not want to be seen dead riding like a orchard road light up on his expensive bike.

 

Hahaha.... the day that one of his buddies or himself ends up under a vehicle will prove whether their vanity is worth the minute's silence offered on every Cycle event day. Would they like the presence of a minister or politician to share their moment's silence? Enjoyable and fun is it? Nice to be famous at death is it?

 

I say good luck to these cyclists who insist on riding ignorantly and dangerously whether you are the TDF or the heartland type. Local or foreigner. You choose the consequence. You face up to it dead or half alive. Your choice.

Yep. Its illegal to cycle on the pavements. Cycling on the right lane when going to turn right is legal because cyclists have to follow the same traffic rules. Dunno about the legal distance though. You can ask the TP.

Every Saturday morning I see this group cycling towards thomson road. The slower ones will always cycle recklessly running the red lights and not slowing down at the intersections just because they are afraid of being left behind.

 

As for the lights IMO some feel that the lights are just to make them more visible rather than to light up the road. Especially when they are in groups if the rider at the front has a very bright tail light, it might be uncomfortable for the cyclist directly behind him. For me I just use lights with different brightness so that if I am at the front or alone I just turn on to max brightness and if I am in a group I will lower the brightness to a comfortable level but still visible to other road users.

I don't think "single file" exist in the vocabulary of those cyclist in fancy attire and sunglasses. They will claim it is their right to cycle in any configuration they want....but all it takes is one drunk truck driver to challenge that "rights".

 

Single file is in reference to using the bus lane during lane hours. At all other times cyclists are allowed to cycle two abreast with a third overtaking as long as its not a single lane road.
