Curious to know if any brothers here own the new 2.2L turbo diesel Mazda? Mazda 6 or 5.....

1 thing about the new Mazda is the very low OMV....was told the the diesel 2.2 turbo Mazada 5 is 28k OMV and selling for $166k and it's only white as they have this one and only demo car to sell at full price......WTF

You need to factor in the CEVS when calculating profits of the AD too. After doing so, I believe the margin should be around $20k.

I see. CEVS is part of AD's margin? Still, it is very reasonable margin for the M6.

Too bad I didn't like the drive that much, otherwise it is value for money in today's market.

Haha. My 4th successful failure; thou I can say that today's bid amount could have easily gotten a Cat B COE in the last 3 bids. Not placing any expectations for the next 2; prepared to walk away after 6 successful failures. :)

i find the low end torque for the 2.5L unit a little lacking, must floor the pedal to get to speed. IS250 (also 2.5L) feels much faster, relatively speaking. Steering while precise is a little too light (read: electrical) for me.

Hate the start stop feature.

Plus point is design, one of the best in its class, and full of gadgets.

Ah, those are the compromises for higher fuel efficiency... I don't really like the seemingly lack of power too at certain degrees of the accelerator (which makes the car feel lethargic) but console myself by the better fuel economy that I can eke out of the car. :)

Different strokes for different folks. Agree it is not a fair comparison but there are other inline 4 units with a more linear acceleration curve, for a 2.5L, it is a slight disappointment.

I will happily trade fuel economy for more power but that is just me. I clocked less than 15k a year.

Well compared with Nissan Teana 2.5,Toyota Camry 2.5 & Honda Accord 2.4,the Mazda's 6 2.5 is the most powerful & it's torque is the highest @ the lowest Rpm,185 Bhp & 252Nm@ 3250 Rpm,none of the cars about got this figure...it's emission also the lowest among them, thus got $5000.00 rebate, while the rest got none, the only bad point about this engine is it's refinement[a tad rough] & sound[sounded like Diesel engine].

Some of the makes you mentioned feel faster and it is not just me, I think. See below.

You need to rev the engine and floor the pedal to gain speed and the engine whines like a whore in heat (as affirmed by you) when pushed. Not my kind of ride. I don't believe in numbers all the time and this is one of those times.

The relatively high rpm of the engines power peak gives real insight into the drivability of the Mazda6. Moving off from a standstill, the 6 appears to suffer from low-rev lethargy; much like the CX-5. It sure feels like it could use more low-end torque, and that applies to both engine variants. The 2.5 litre engine doesnt feel particularly any stronger than the smaller motor. Not at low revs at least.

Actually, the good fuel economy allows me to rev the engine with greater peace mind knowing that I won't end up paying through the nose for the petrol at the end of the day. Stepping harder on the accelerator naturally also translates to faster pick-up. :p

Well,i felt my 2.5's torque is more than enough & is good [thumbsup] for a 2.5 L[even i got a 370z],if you are a driver who wants a faster car,i suggest you to get a Conti Turbocharged car or Subaru WRX,this will serve your needs better. :D

Yeah, people get used to the car they drive.... know your woman and you can make her moan and groan.... hahaha....

The M6 2.5L drives a little like a 1.6L/1.8L turbocharged car. I prefer a big cc NA car (>3L would be nice but pocket not deep enough) which gives the full possible torque for a given rpm as soon as you ask for it. Bird in your hand.

Some of the European makes have however successfully engineered their 2L turbocharged cars to minimize the off-boost lethargy and turbo lag issues, by adding more gears, designing smaller turbo that kick in earlier, adding a supercharger, manipulating cams/valves, etc.... Still green while not sacrificing too much motoring fun. The Japanese appears to be going backwards. Even Honda is calling its engine..... WTF.... Earth Dreams. The Japanese are losing it.... except maybe Toyota with its hybrid tech.

This post should be elsewhere, no malice to M6 owners, just an honest exchange of my views and butt feel of the car... [laugh]
