Sga54g 1st Gear September 28, 2012 Share September 28, 2012 If slow moving, I will shorten the gap. If rain, I will maintain gap becos I had 2 accidents before when I came to a stop for few Secs before 2 diff jokers banged to me at diff place diff time. Both chain accident and both I m the first. both times I left quite a space between me and the front, prob slightly more than half a car length bah. It pays to be vigilant. Yes, it does pays to be vigilant... ↡ Advertisement

Kar_lover Supercharged September 28, 2012 Share September 28, 2012 during rain, braking distance doubles..say if u're travelling at 90km/h..the stopping distance is approximately 360ft or 110meters..keep that distance to be safe 110m??? No wonder everytime it rains got traffic jam! Please, if heavy rain, drive at 80kmh instead of 90kmh, then 3-4 car lengths enough liao (if u have PS3, FAsym2, S001) otherwise 5-6 car lengths. If die die must drive 90, then add 1 more car length can already.
Fooblack Supercharged September 28, 2012 Share September 28, 2012 chain collision usually very complicated. i doubt the TS can just settle with the front taxi. the other 2 cars behind the TS will cite the front taxi's collision as their defence. In short, if i am TS, i will try to argue that his car is stationery prior to the accident. The other 2 cars will try to allude that they banged the TS as the TS already met with the accident with the taxi infront. End of day, BOLA rules will apply. It is up to the TS whether he can prove his car did not hit the front taxi prior to accident. I was involved in a chain accident before. also in TS' scenario. I only allowed the BOLA rules for claim on the condition that my NCD is not affected and no admission of liability on my part..

Steptronic Supercharged September 28, 2012 Share September 28, 2012 Come on guys, let us get back to BTT. Recalling 2 seconds rule? It means that at least 2 seconds' distance should be kept between two cars. So, the thumb rule is 1 car length for every 8 km / hr. For 80 km/hr, it should be 10 cars' lenth. For those interested in Mathematics: One car length is about 4.4m. So, for every 8km/hr, a car's length to be kept. How? 8 km/hr = 8000m/3600sec = 2.2 m / second. So, for 2 seconds, it is 4.4m or simply one car length.

I always learnt one car length per 10 km/h Roughly this is 0.75 seconds for recognising hazard and deciding on action 0.75 seconds to carry out action (eg, move foot to brake) 0.5 seconds for margin of error
