Ev0lutionz Clutched October 23, 2012 Share October 23, 2012 I think Singapore should make traffic offenders (depending on severity) fine with 10% of their annual income. When it hurts their pocket, see whether they dare to drive recklessly a not?
Darkblue 1st Gear October 23, 2012 Share October 23, 2012 Better increase to 24 months instead...
Davidklt Supercharged October 23, 2012 Share October 23, 2012 might as well suggest rotan for those that breach 24 points. That would be a better deterrent. Better increase to 24 months instead...
Scoots 3rd Gear October 23, 2012 Share October 23, 2012 Do not agree with the writer. IMHO 3 months is not what he envisioned a "reasonable time to reflect" but a short period to lie low for some to chut pattern once again once over. From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/premium/forum-...-point-20121023 Expunge demerit points after three months AS MANY people need to drive as part of their work, I hope that the Traffic Police can consider expunging demerit points after three months instead of a year. Motorists are already punished with a monetary fine, but still have to wait for 12 months for the demerit points to be zero again. Three months is a reasonable time for a motorist to reflect on the traffic offence committed. Chan Ban Choon It really takes a conscience effort to NOT abide by traffic rules to commit enough offences to chalk up all 24 demerits points so ..... NO! Well take my suggestion instead, 10% of annual income, confirm follow rules. Whenever things hurt their pocket, they will obey.

Kiadaw 6th Gear October 25, 2012 Share October 25, 2012 LTA said no go for that. People see 5seconds from far will speed up and try to make it thru. I personally think it is a good system. Not everyone see left 5 secs will make a dash for it. Some will some down. So it is irresponsible to make a sweeping statement that we will make a dash for it without actual statistic. I have to say I agree with TP. Why you need statistic when its evidence every day? Certain things work fine in other countries, but it just cannot work with the type of drivers we have in Singapore. Sad but true. I have lived in Germany for a little for over a year, & stay in U.K for a while. The number of time I see someone drive off before the lights turn is 1 time, & its a bicycle. In Singapore, I see it every day, in fact every few lights if memory doesn't fail me. That & red lights beaters, which is why the system cannot work,, in my view. Also, Sinagpore is like 60km end to end, you get anywhere within short time anyway. What we need is a reminder that it doesn't really make a big differences in time to have to do stunts on the road to get where ever we need to go. However, if you do stunts & cause an accident, which I heard is a common sight in Sinagpore, you will cause delays t many people, & all the time spend on yourself for the insurance & repairs. But if anything, I come to know that sometimes, SInagporeans just do not learn. Almost everyone know exactly what is the main causes of accidents, yet still commit the same bad practices. Kiadaw 6th Gear October 25, 2012 Share October 25, 2012 (edited) In Norway, a Nokia director was fined 200k euros. He earned 2mil euros a year so the Norwegian govt fined him according to his wealth. What i heard from my tour guide when i was on tour there. Its the same in Switzerland. Thats why I drive like a Granny over their. If you are caught by their 'infamous' police, I heard they conficate your car on the spot. Edit: Sorry, never read the original story from Switzerland. LOL. [laugh] If not for your many previous posts thereby knowing that you are one of us working in Deutschland, I would suspect that you are an imposter! I somehow always mistype Singapore as Sinagapore (don't know why, even this very sentence LOL, maybe habit liao), & have to correct it after that. But I was in office, & type this before I went out Lunch with collegues, so the error. My bad.

Kiadaw 6th Gear October 25, 2012 Share October 25, 2012 U purposely speed at those fixed speed camera plc and beat a few red light confirm more than 24 pt In some countries, if you drive a certain level above speed limit, or caught dash across red light, straight away suspend licence liao. Singapore give us 24 points, very lenient liao, me think.
Kamikaze89 2nd Gear October 25, 2012 Share October 25, 2012 haha i rather lta takes away the monetary fine and increase the demerit points penalty. breaking the traffic rules can be a matter of life and death, it shouldn't be something that people can use money to buy themselves out. ↡ Advertisement
