Correct me if I am wrong. I hope I can point out a few more advice.

First & foremost, your interest in r/c buggy hobby can be sustained with racing with others. If you are planning to enjoy it by running it alone, after the initial shiok feeling of buying it & hitting the fields, you might shelf it.

Moreover if I am not wrong, few people are running 1/10 nitro buggy. 1/10 nitro onroad was previously in the rage 10yrs back but I am not sure it is now. Go bottletree park at Yishun to absorb the offroad scene before committing.

Lastly, u need to think about spare parts availability.

Woah! Does the undercarriage hit the floor like everytime it was dropped?

It depends on your spring rate & oil in your shock absorbers.

The video demonstrates a bottom out but its rebound well controlled.

That means the car won't jump all over after landing from a ramp jump.

This particular car has an aluminium chassis that doubles as a skidplate.

This kind of price usually is those lower end model with pull start. When was the time you played 1/8? I rmb I got my starter box around 200+. Those with the SLA batt inside.

That was in 1985,the track is where the East Coast Macdonald.[now close].

Hi

If it's assembled from pieces in a box it's "hobby grade".

If it's from long ago enough (vintage), it can be worth some serious money.

Vintage Tamiya Avante (1/10 buggy not Mini 4WD) from 1988 used to change hands on EBay for 1000+ dollars.

Anyway, if it's just a battery issue, its not that hard to fix.

I would reccomend

Auntie Winnie (tel : +65 6235 0867 / +65 6732 5227)

S'wan Model and Trading

Orchard Plaza #02-40/41, Singapore, Singapore 238841

Cheers

Mine is from the early 90's. Hopefully can find the spare parts. Will go down to Auntie Winnie one of these days. [thumbsup]

I saw your recommended website. I was in nitro RC 1/8 4wd stadium truck, 1/8 onroad, 1/8 4WD off-road.

I bought those basic models equipped with basic Aluminium / plastic parts. Chassis bent, shock towers bent, plastic shocks leak, suspension parts bent. Tuning the engine was the main headache especially after the engine gets older. After that I had a 5 year break from them. I just bought myself an electric 1/10 4WD. Play it hard, dust it & oil essential parts, keep in bag. Almost bulletproof.

Poison from Tamiya

Can these buggies be modded to become RWD and fitted with like road tires instead of knobbies for offroading? I super like buggies for their suspension travel and look, but would like to keep to playing on cleaner surfaces so cleaning will be minimal, and I like to try drifting...

You can convert a 4WD to RWD by just removing the centre shaft or you can just buy a dedicated 2WD.

You can swap the offroad tyres to Tarmac hugging ones easily. To drift, it's easier to use a 4WD

For drifting I think just get a normal on-road car better. No need to use RWD for RC drifting. Most ppl use 4wd. RC drifting u got RWD also cannot drift on the normal road tires. Have to get those drift tires or some ppl use PVC pipes. Maybe can mod a normal on-road car to have longer suspension. In the past many ppl mod the tt-01 to become a rally car. [laugh]
