Vid Hypersonic December 6, 2012 Share December 6, 2012 i not so powderful. I'm just considering the difference between professions. For example, an engineer and accountant. Yes, every job have risks. But surely the consequences of an error by an engineer is higher than an accountant? (and not all engineers are even higher paid than accountants) There are many factors that lead to failures. If an architect made a fundamental error that resulted in a design flaw, then it's the architects fault. Same for engineers and whoever was involved in the project. Unless an inquiry can pinpoint exactly who was at fault, most of the time the company in charge will be penalized. Only in the event that the failure causes death, injury or huge monetary loss will the person who caused it be penalized. Even then, it will have to undergo litigation in the high court before he or she is accountable. ↡ Advertisement

Brendon1980 Neutral Newbie December 7, 2012 Share December 7, 2012 It depends. Project responsibility is taken over from QP. Above that 2 independant checker (AC and BCA) will counter check. If a structure fails, the first step often is to access the cause of the failure such as loading, quality, design and etc. If it is found that loading capacity exceeds the allowable (compromising the safety factor) then the responsibility will fall on the owner or management. However if proven that the built such as (ecc) differs from the design, the contractor is liable of course but so is the consultant's RE who is suppose to act as the eyes for the consultant. If due to design mistake such as design not able to sustainiate the loading, then the consultant is liable. Safety on site is NOT liable for any design or structural failures except temporary works perhaps like scaffold.

Baphomet 3rd Gear December 7, 2012 Share December 7, 2012 Safety inspectors/officers have quite a heavy responsibility. But they're well paid for it. actually.. are safety officers liable for anything? Most of the time, they do not sign any approval. Their job seems to me like more of a conusltation/advisory role...more like a requirement as the legislation states that you require a SO per X number of workers. correct me if im wrong. WSHA ensures that safety officers are mandatory across many industries nowadays. When anything happens, MOM sends investigators out, and you can bet the safety officer who did the inspection and the risk management plan etc. would have his reports and stuff scrutinized - such as evacuation plan, risk assessments, all that stuff. And if you worked with any auditor before, whether safety or otherwise, the questions they ask make it feel like they're trying to find bones in an egg. StefanK Supercharged December 7, 2012 Share December 7, 2012 I ever see before, ammunition box in army got 2 signatures on the sealing certificate. One is the packer, one is the checker. During discrepancy, even if the people ORD, also called back to investigate or give statement. Last time lah. Now, the onus is on active service men to ensure 100% accuracy and constant checks. Stock take I think got 3 times a year? Last I remember, all the ORD personnel ammo already issued out for training liao, so the cycle is renewed. Heng... I don't want 40 years old already SAF call me up ask me where is the Claymore mine or Bangalore Torpedo.
Soya Supersonic December 7, 2012 Share December 7, 2012 Would like to seek further views on this.. Will you still be responsible/held liable for errors which you made in your previous company? For example, you designed a structure. And then you left the company. One fine day the structure collapse, causing injuries and damages... Will you still be liable for it? are u the PE? if yes, you're liable for life. if no, PE can countersue you but onus will be on him that you misled him. moral of story: go into Finance. screw up oso gahmen will bail u out. SO do not sign approvals.. he basically advise requirements and maintains paperworks.. so actually any implications back to him is quite mild. thats what i felt la Edited December 7, 2012 by Baphomet
