Crash test results

Looks like potential buyers of new cars should look beyond NCAP 5-star ratings and check out IIHS small overlap crash test results. The latter scenerio may occur in many overtaking or road junction collisions.

Many are lulled into complacency, thinking that NCAP 5-star rating (often highlighted in advertisements of some European brands) will keep them safe when they crash at 90km/hr or faster, not realising that test was done at only 64km/hr!

In any case, the most effective defence is to avoid a collision by safe and defensive driving, anticipating the careless or dangerous driving behaviour of other drivers/riders. Also fastening seat belts and securing children/babies in proper car seats for each trip are essential. Especially nowadays with motorists who think beating red lights (since unlikely to be caught by traffic police) is not a serious mattter!

I agree. if car crash at 80-90kmh or more, no matter what car one can drive, the chance of survival or injury free is slim.

Also to add on is to apply 3 secs distance between your car and the car in front.

my no 1 priority is to get from pt A to pt B safe without having my car touching any car or anyone

Have anyone ever wondered how safe is it to be in an ambulance? How does an ambulance fair in a crash test? Interesting video... [cool]

Now, can our ambulance (owned by SCDF & SAF) achieve the same level of safety, in an unfortunate event? [confused]  [confused]

Unfortunately this is not the type of ambulance we have locally.

Level of safety, 20 years apart... a nice video comparison of 2 bread and butter model by the same manufacturer. BTW, Tsuru is our B13 Sunny, while Versa is our Almera. There is basically not chance of survival for B13 driver, as if you look closely into slow motion, he was hit multiple time in the crash!!

Our SAF is using the smaller F150.

Bro, this one ah?? I think the pple inside won't die because of the impact of the crash.. But I'm quite sure there will be serious injuries due to the things falling in the ambulance. The serviceability of the things inside is just bad.. Most things are loose, some of the catch are not working, some safety chains are either loose or missing. Thats what I observed during my refresher course. We all still made a joke out of it saying we are more likely to die due to falling off the ambulance than a crash.

Poor Fiat Punto...  [:(]

The Fiat Punto Just Received A Zero Star Euro NCAP Crash Test Rating

https://www.carthrottle.com/post/the-fiat-punto-just-received-a-zero-star-euro-ncap-crash-test-rating/

Remarkably, Fiat still sells its ancient Punto in the UK. The car has been kicking around since 2005, which might make you wonder just how safe it is compared to more recently superminis. Wonder no more, as we have the answer: it’s way, wayoff.

It did just fine in its Euro NCAP crash test upon release, clocking five stars for adult occupants and three stars for child passengers, but as car safety has moved on, so have crashed tests. When put through the current, more stringent Euro NCAP test, the Punto managed…zero stars. That gives the little Fiat the dubious honour of being the first ever car to be given such a rating.

This time around it managed 51 per cent, 43 per cent and 52 per cent in the adult occupant, child occupant and pedestrian categories respectively. It was a zero per cent rating in the ‘Safety Assist’ category that sealed its fate as a zero star car - other than a seatbelt reminder, it doesn’t have much in the way of the preventative tech we’ve become accustomed to in modern cars.

Responding to the result, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles UK said:

“Safety is of the utmost importance to the FCA group. When Punto was launched 12 years ago, it was the first 5 star Euro NCAP car in its class. The importance of safety to the FCA group is demonstrated by the number of new models achieving 5 stars, for example Alfa Romeo Giulia, Alfa Romeo Stelvio and the Jeep Compass.”

From the Video,it seems not that bad...at least the Driver Side, never smashed, take a China Car,do the same Test, the Driver Side will smash in.

Euro NCAP: ONE Star For New Jeep Wrangler, ZERO For Fiat Panda

https://www.carscoops.com/2018/12/euro-ncap-one-star-new-jeep-wrangler-zero-fiat-panda/

The famous ‘death wobble’ isn’t the only major issue plaguing the new generation Jeep Wrangler, as the SUV isn’t as safe as one would think. In fact, Euro NCAP tested it alongside other vehicles and gave it only 1 star.

The rating was pulled down in the Safety Assist category, as the 2019 Jeep Wrangler lacks automatic emergency braking and lane assistance.

“It is truly disappointing to see a brand new car being put on sale in 2018 with no autonomous braking system and no lane assistance”, commented Euro NCAP’sSecretary General, Michiel van Ratingen. “It is high time we saw a product from the Fiat-Chrysler Group offering safety to rival its competitors.”

Jeep’s all-new Wrangler didn’t do so well in the Adult Occupant, Child Occupant and Pedestrian categories either, where it scored 50 percent, 69 percent and 49 percent, respectively.

ZERO Stars for the Fiat Panda

9c41ddef-fiat-panda-2018-euro-ncap-00.jp

Strike two for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles came from the Fiat Panda in Euro NCAP’s latest round of tests. The vehicle scored a disastrous 0 stars and was regarded as “a dubious distinction matched only by the Punto in 2017”, stated European car safety specialists.

FIVE Star Models with Problems

Euro NCAP also crash-tested the Hyundai Santa Fe and found that there was an issue with the side curtain airbags, which could be torn during deployment in vehicles equipped with a panoramic roof. The Korean automaker is said to have come up with a fix, and early cars will be subjected to a recall to correct this problem.

Meanwhile, the driver knee airbag is said not to have deployed correctly in the new BMW X5. The Munich-based auto firm’s SUV thus follows in the footsteps of the 5-Series, which had a similar problem when tested last year, as the airbag provided “little additional protection to the driver’s legs”.

Audi, Jaguar, Peugeot and Volvo Have Set New Safety Standards

36d00555-jaguar-i-pace-2018-euro-ncap-0.

Other vehicles tested by Euro NCAP were the Audi Q3, Jaguar I-Pace, Peugeot 508 and Volvo V60/S60. All of them were awarded five-star safety ratings, and were praised by Euro NCAP.

“To be fair, the Audi Q3Jaguar I-PacePeugeot 508 and Volvo V60/S60 have set the standard against which others are judged this time, and other manufacturers could do well to follow their example”, commented van Ratingen. “The I-Pace, especially, demonstrates that future vehicles will be good for the environment, but also provide high levels of safety.”

@Carbon82 your XC60 power 👍

Sshhhh 低调点, 低调点……

Coincidentally, my choice then was between X3 and XC60, and besides the better performance, safety was also one of my top priorities, so the rest is history.

Check out the various crash test videos of XC60 (especially the roll over test) on Volvo media page, really impressive! [thumbsup]

Which I surprised more is the A pillar test from the video. How the force is transfer to the D pillar to help absorb it. And the sink in of the car.
