if iam not wrong, those $1 or $101 coe are some technical problem.

so if there were such problem again,it will happen again.

but then back to those below $20k COE,i don't think it will again at least not in the near future for the coming 5 years.

consumers' budget has already increase and they will be happy if it drops to below $40k.

It will happen if they bring back coe for cars under 1000cc....

Solely my opinion....

Change the political group that control LTA [laugh]

Make the system fair for everyone . Current method is just irresponsible [smash]

This statement sounds the most irresponsible to me. [rolleyes]

COE is nothing nowadays.

just a paper that comes with a car.

people just buy the car and ignore the paper cost.

There is not even a paper, where is the paper? I never see it..

Correct me if I am wrong, the $1 and $101 COE were when it was still open bidding system resulting in this so called freak results. So LTA. Decided to do a close bid to stabilise car prices. Or maybe stabilise their revenue rather :D

I guess partially its bec with the high COE , its not worthy to get jap/kor cars..... [sweatdrop]

of course you are correct to say .. still many are buying . I wonder why too

Not worth to get jap/kor with the high COE? Not necessary true lo, my carpark here still see quite a few car owners buy jap cars, but all of them got either altis or camry. Just noticed one owner changed from 4 year plus camry to a brand new camry! His new car COE should be at least 80-90K and yet still can afford.

A recession in SG may not happen anytime soon.

Our economy is tightly controlled by the government.

So far its been doing well. Even if there's a slight decline, it's gonna be momentarily.

Come to think of it, in 2010 my friend predicted that COE prices will remain high beyond 2013. Looks like she might be right.

COE will only go down when the government finally impose a 1 household-1 car policy. That will immediately dampen the demand for cars. Their current tightening of supply of COE certificates does not seem to work because people are still buying. Our middle class people are slowly turning into low class people, in other words, real-income gap widening.

1 household 1 car policy is very debatable i.e. needs, enforceability issues, car collectors, complication in administerating such policy.

LTA have to devise an efficient transport system to discourage those who drive and park in workplace 9-5. Let's face it, there is jams everywhere during the peak hours, and the objective of LTA is to ensure smooth traffic. The main culprits are those who choose to drive rather than to take public transport to work. Increase carpark cost in the workplaces like Hong Kong, and you will see less people driving to work. $20 daily parking fees doesn't deter people paying more than $80,000 COEs to drive to work. Maybe $900 monthly season parking fee, will dampen the need to drive to work.

When more people choose to take public transport, then public transport will evolve i.e. premium bus services, more express buses, office buses, premium MRT cabins during peak hours for those who are willing to pay more for a seat.

If COE tanks its because of dire economic situation. In such times even if COE is $1, do you dare to put your money on a new car when your job security is threatened?

Very true.

I would agree in part that higher parking charges would deter; this should be applied uniformly across the business district but as it is, there is huge disparity. Newer buildings like MBFC, Asia Square are already charging 400-500/month and I see less colleagues driving to work. Yet you can find much cheaper alternatives 5 minutes drive away, which would continue to attract drivers.

However this is also the need to improve traffic flows as we can see in the evenings on expressways. If the operational aspect of road planning is flawed, why blame it on the number of vehicles?

COE will no go down unless,

Singapore buy over Johor

Half of Singaporean migrate to other countries.

I agree with the fundamental. The number of new COEs depends on the number of new cars we can put on our roads, considering the road situation.

But I think no need to go so far as Johor or people moving out.

Cos when I'm in a jam going from North to South, I notice that the roads in the other direction are empty. I believe it's the same for many other roads.

So actually we can better make use of the space that we have. If URA stops allowing more and more offices in the south, and decentralise them instead, I believe we can have much more cars than we have today. URA will say they are already doing so, but they are nowhere near the effort that should be put in.

Do away with the concept of city centre and residential "outskirts." Integrate them. If I could walk 15 minutes to my office, I would. I wouldn't even be adding to the traffic.

Between a high COE premium and trying to control the car population on the road and a low COE premium but jams everywhere and everyday, which one do people prefer?

We are moving towards the former but it has not fully materialise yet, at least not until 2015-2016. Till then, everybody's guess is as good on whether the COE premium would plunge then. Personally, I do not think so. There would not be a $20k COE level soon.

I agree with u. If ppl can buy cars at 100k Coe, I can foresee the roads to be overly congested.

And then, those ppl who bought at low Coe will start to grumble "road congested, nth is done, raise Coe.."

To me, Coe is like buying a ticket for a flight, or even to a movie, it is indeed just a paper.

But sad to say, this is how things have been working for so long.

If I can afford a ticket to Europe, I buy, if not, maybe I make do with a ticket to Thailand, or worse come to worse, stay put.

Seriously, I'm really anticipating what solution can cater to everyone, if ever possible.

Just my 2 cents worth of limited knowledge
