Can i know why upsizing to larger wheels will kill your FC? Thanks, because i was thinking of changing mine too.

upsizeing wheels cause its weight increased, normally wheel weight increase 1 kg is equivalent to 10kg kerb weight increased, so you can imagine if you upsize rim from 16" to 18" plus tyre from 205 to 225, at least per wheel increased 3kg, so 4 wheels will cause 120kg car kerb weight increasing, about 2 adults' weight, of cause FC bad [:p]

meantime wide tyre also increase rolling resistance, its additional FC bad

Okay thanks! So you will encourage to stick with the stock wheels?

You must ask yourself whether you are willing to accept the changes once you upsize your wheels: worsen FC, increased cost of tyres, decreased comfort vs mainly aesthetics for your car.

depends on what is the balance point of handling vs FC,

my Civic1.8 changed wheels to 215/45/R17, FC from original 12km+/L dropped to 11km+/L,

not too bad, still acceptable

Never knew the effects were so far reaching !!

No wonder, previously, even just by changing Tyre size w/o touching rim size, my FC deteriorate.

Was 175/65-14, changed to 185/60-14.

ANW I THINK, 9/10 ppl who change rim. its cos they want change the out look of their car, more garlang, more sporty.

how many ppl actually change because they want better performance.

and those who thought they have better performance after they upsize their rim, DOTHEY actually experience the change in result before and after. ??

or they thought they have better performance, because tyre shop boss say so , because every 1 in forum say so or all his/her friend confrim upszie liao better perfromance . LOL

Hey man, i think your FC after upgrading is still quite reasonable. Can i know how does your ride feels after you upgrade your wheels in terms of acceleration, comfort and handling? Thanks.

definitely handling better, especially more confident while cornering

acceleration no significant sense, but a bit bumping and hard than stock tyres,

importantly it looks sporty and aggreesive

seems we have more negative feed back.

what about down size to 15" will all those feed back turn to Positive?

If 1 is worrying about all the negative issue

Just stick to your Original size and Pay for Premium Products you will sure get all positive improvement.

1 key factor affect your Consumption is your Driving Style [thumbsup]

Just a tot. The word "upgrade" implies an increase in standard. With more downside than benefits with a larger tyre size, it is quite difficult to classify it as an "upgrade" simply the driver paid more and it looks better.

you are right, the looks of the new rims does play an important factor [;)]

Dun forget also a lot of stress on the joints and bearings as well during cornering, esp.MSCP

Believe me stick to stock ( save$) or else just upgrade to 215/45/17

Planning to change my stock rims to a new set of rims of similar 16 inch. Current tyres are of 205/55 . I guess just changing the rims will not affect the whole setup assuming that the offset is done properly?

And does anyone have anyone recommendations for lighter rims?

If you're planning to change rims & tyres.. best option is to +1 size from stock.. improve handling without affecting FC significantly..

and if you're using lighter forged rims like RAYS or SSR Type-C.. the FC might even improve slightly due to lower unsprung weight of the rim & tyre combo

The correct profile for your Civic +1 upgrade should be 215/45/R17.. go for better tyres like Michelin PS3 or if budget allows Bridgestone RE11A or Yokohama AD08R
