Think not only Sorento and Santa Fe, some other 7 seaters (hint: the more premium ones) can also partly call it a day hahah. 

 

In USA, the starting price of the CX9 is almost 1.5 times the starting price of a Mazda 6. 

 

Assuming relative proportion, that should make the CX9 'starting' from around 190k onwards haha. 

 

Then again lies the issue that if you price a 'mazda' too high, you can almost forget about selling it well if at all. 

 

It shall remain a niche market car if so.

The only thing is CX-9 is much bigger, it exceeds 5m in length..... But still, it's not a premium brand. Basically our COE system skews the game in favour of the premium marques

Quite sure CX9 build quality is up there with the premium brands, definitely above the 2 Korean make.

 

Even if the price is at 190k-210k, it is still cheaper than Q7 or XC90 by about 80-100k given they are about the same size.

 

It is in a unique category in SG as its direct competition should be Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander and Nissan Pathfinder. Non of which are available in SG.

I am aware that CX9 has similar dimension as Q7 & XC90, but that is where the similarity end. Not to belittle Mazda, but CX9 is not in the same league as Audi & Volvo, it is like you will not be comparing Lexus NX with Toyota RAV4.

I have no doubt that CX9 would be even more refine than Sorento, but how well it will be received here is heavily dependent on the pricing after all.

 

As a guide, the previous generation of CX9 was asking for ~$190K (in mid 2015, with COE premium in the $70K range), and it don't move at all. Of course, the 3.7L road-tax unfriendly (and thirsty) engine is another contributing factors... I have high hope for the new CX9 though.

You are right, previous CX9 didn't even move at $190k mainly due to the 3.7l tax-unfriendly engine. I almost bought the previous gen CX9 if not because of the engine capacity.

 

I was just trying to make it slightly clearer that although Sorento is the only non premium brand large size 7 seater SUV available in SG for comparison, but the fact that CX9 size is a level higher and logically will command a higher premium and yet 80-100k cheaper than the premium brands.

 

Maybe I'm justifing to myself to get one when launch since can't afford a Q7 or XC90.

This is certainly a very nice car which will be one of my target if it will ever come to singapore. However, on closer look, i cannot find the aircon vent on tbe third row seats. That will be a major concern in our local weather and the size of the car.

All reviews stated no 3rd row aircon vents. A disappointment but not a deal breaker.

I will probably be putting Sorento and CX9 on the shopping list for the final comparison once CX9 is released.

 

But do note on the 2.5T petrol vs 2.2 T-diesel comparison as well as ll the tested vehicles are on AWD.

 

Locally Sorento is by default 2WD unless you pay extra. also waiting to see if C&C decides to spec up the current minscule HU.

 

Local specs comparison have to see if mazda brings in the 2WD or the AWD version on release.

Essentially a fight between diesel vs petrol.

 

Handling wise seem like CX9 edge out abit.
