Turbocharged

Aug 17 - If B was told 18 or 19, B would know the answer immediately(which would contradict A's 1st statement part 1). Thus May 19 and June 18 is eliminated.

A couldnt have been told it is June as A says that the doesnt know the answer after eliminating June 18 thus June 17 is also ruled out.

After A's 1st statement, Bernard ruled out June 17 and found out the answer. As June 17 was eliminated because of A's statement, B must have been told 17 was the date. As only the pair of June 17 & Aug 17 will deduce an answer after eliminating June 17. The rest of the date pairs would not give B a definite answer.

Agree. This is what I deduced also. August 17.

actually.. i think this type of ''extra'' qn is the main stupid part of our education system...

meritocracy i can understand..

but this type of out of syllabus style questioning can only be answered by

very smart students... OR

students who's parents are RICH enough to afford enhancement classes (tuition is bad word now)

kiasu parents will always end up paying $$ in HOPE of their kid being able to answer these questions...

that no longer levels the playing field imo... education should be equal to all.. for all classes..

http://mothership.sg/2015/04/p5-logic-question-is-actually-a-math-olympiad-question-for-sec-3-and-4-students/

The Ministry of Education told The Straits Times the question was not meant for Primary 5 pupils, who are around the age of 11.

"This question is not part of the Singapore primary or secondary mathematics syllabus," it said. "It is not reflective of the type of questions that are set in our mathematics assessments."

walau the teacher that set this wan to separate the 99.99% from the 0.01% elite?

given the limited time for answering, its more of luck who answers correctly.

Frankly i dont care if they get it wrong, but i will minus points for not even trying...

+2 for correct answer, +1 for trying, -1 for not trying

It's trying to separate that 99% out of the 0.01%math elite. Is a question for math competition.
