Yes my first one, she's awesome.

She tried to find me a 1675 Pepsi from 1978 (my birth year) but no luck, although she did come across a nice one from 1972. Big price difference though so i'm kinda glad she didn't spend so much.

Yes.

A good fine example of a 1675 pepsi either from 78 or 72 will set her back very easily $15k for watch only.

I will not advise a noob to go vintage unless he or she has proper knowledgeable adviser beside.

Many people unknowingly either overpay or get period incorrect specimens.

However the current Explorer2 is also a very noob choice.

Its a watch that goes downhill from day one, sorry to be honest

But whats most important is that its her sincere gift and your first rolex so its always worth treasuring

All the best. Enjoy your Rolex

And I cannot even afford a Rolex... [:(] [:(]

Rolex is man in the street.

APs Hublot for noobs and posers

Patek for posers

RM for even bigger posers

Come Bro for old times sake, i sell you a GMTmaster2 16710 Coke for less than $10k

Only for you.

Yeah resale value for this Explorer II will never be a consideration and besides it's the only "new" rolex that i have even considered, none of the other models tickles my fancy.

I think the seller was asking 27 or 29k for the 1675, claimed it was all original parts and with box+papers. This is what wifey told me, she sourced via a dude that her friends use to source all their watches and is trusted by them. The same guy got her my watch from HK.

Now wifey has her eyes set on a royal oak for herself, i might need to get in touch with this guy myself  [:p]

For vintage, i only trust myself.

No one else.

Local dealers act like they know vintage Rolex

Until today i still havent met one who truly knows.

Most of them just wanna sell (cant blame them)

Only hardcore collectors with passion know their vintages.

Of course this is not to say that they are all lousy.

But with vintage, you need to know your stuff or else dont touch.

This pic is from HJ

If you are looking for mid size rose gold 31mm datejust with dome bezel,

it would be 178245 (5 denotes rose gold)

If you want yellow it would be 178248 (8 denotes yellow gold)

If you want steel , it would be 178240 (0 denotes SS)

I would say that people wearing a Rolex over a Patek are people who appreciate the superior everyday robustness of a Rolex
