Hello, sorry but how to know exactly when it will die ? It is 4 years old and I am just thinking that the end is soon ? Any warning will appear before the end ?

So we cannot change it and need to go to a workshop ?

Thanks a lot.

Bro

You are driving a premium vehicle and you want to save on a vital part of your car?

4 years is a good run. Many external workshops will be able to help you save some money.. just see the owner's thread for workshops who do it. Cheers

Thank you for your useless ridiculous lessons.

My car costs $100000 where I live, so don't come to teach me anything about saving $ !

I do not mind to pay but I am not an idiot who just trusts Benz when they tell me to change the battery, when actually I NEVER had any warning in the car, and some people keep their battery many more years, not only 4 !

Benz sells the battery $400 where I live, should I also just say AMEN when I found on Internet that people usually pay it $150 at standard battery shops ?!

So please back to question and put your opinion where it should be.

The questions are:

- do we get warnings before the battery dies

- can we change it without going to any shop ?

Sometimes the battery may just die off without warning. Yours is a very old battery and could have some undetected damages. It's better to get it changed. After all, the battery is not very expensive. The damage to the car could be much worse if the car suddenly just die off while on the roads. So no point saving this kind of money. Get it changed.

Haven't try fixing the battery without going to any workshop. It is still best to get professionals to help you fix it and ensure the new battery is in good condition.

Lastly, chill man.

Thank you so much. So you confirm that a 4 years battery should be changed even for $400 and that it's better to let them do it.

Well, let the workshop people check the battery condition first.

But for car battery, using it for 4 years is already stretching its lifespan. Average is about 2 years.

Good and on the safe side to get it changed.

If you think the workshop quoted you a price that you think is expensive, then maybe try to quote from other workshops which may give cheaper prices for the same battery model.

Anyway, what's your battery brand and model? Maybe the Mercedes cars owners here can advise you a better alternative or workshop.

C250 amg line, I understand that I can find it cheaper, but nobody has replied to the only real question: is there anything to reset on the computer when changing the battery ? Is there any risk for the electronics when changing the battery ? Why it would be so different with a standard car ?

Thank you again.

Being a nice Sunday here, I've decided to be nice.

100k is peanuts in my country. You can't even get an A Class, not to mention a C250 AMG.

Please read my replies in case you didn't get it.

Now go get your battery changed.

PS, do you ask the internet before going to see a doc for your medical examination?

$100k buy you an Toyota Altis in Singapore. In that context, a $400 battery lasting 2-3 years on a $200k car is relatively affordable. So most owners won't wait 4 years to change their Mercy battery cause preventive maintenance is much cheaper and more convenience. I changed mine at 2.5 years but the towkays here will just follow the dealers recommendation and swap it out at the 2 years mark. Don't think the sensor is able to tell you days or weeks in advance of an impending battery failure and a $150 non OEM battery (Singapore context) may not last on the C250.

The advice from crazy rich MCFers here is to go change your battery now and don't scrimp, use only OEM parts.

It is too presumptive to say battery last for 2 years.

It depends on whether battery in boot or engine bay.

Shouting that one pays 100k for C250 and expecting everyone here in Singapore to be impressed with that?

I LOL at that...  :a-fun:

150k gets him a C63?

Many did not know that th main killer for battery in engine bay due to heat.

My previous car with battery at boot only changed at 4yrs+.

Current car 1.5yr battery already weak.

True, my ancillary battery in the boot is 3.5 years old. C&C didn't recommend a change yet (i switch off start-stop function at times) and as its failure does not affect critical functioning of the car, I am waiting for it to die a natural death.

Aiyah, the man isn't appreciative and wants stat answers la..

The same question was posted in a Merc specific forum with no reply..

We are trying to do our brotherly part ...

Some experience symptoms like a loss of the start stop function, engine crank time increases, and others simply have no symptoms.

So if you can get a new battery for $150, change it. 4 years is a good run.

You want to change it yourself? GO AHEAD mate. No one is stopping you.

Or simply find a Merc savvy workshop, and there are plenty around in your country too and get it change. Don't be penny wise, pound foolish.

This thread will be helpful:

Enough said..

I’m on Ron 92. C180k facelift w204. Average getting 7.2l/100km. One full tank can go up to 780km-800km before reserve light up. Engine oil I use ntuc carlube 5w40 or giant schnell 5w40. Engine no knocking. Runs smoothly.
