Osprey23 Turbocharged January 18, 2014 Author Share January 18, 2014 Another deal where owners don tink player is worth as much as the club's valuation. N end up with pool missing out an impt target. For me, its worth to pay a bit more if playr is willing to come. That is to make up the loss of chance for the player of playing in ucl. To be fair to FSG, the last time they allowed their manager to pay over the odds, the outcome was disastrous. Once bitten twice shy. The valuation is done by the transfer committee. They come up with the value of targets and set a cap which they will not breach. Salah KIV'ed till summer. M'Vila still got chance ↡ Advertisement

Good to see BR sending promising youngsters out for first team experience. Suso at Almera and Wisdom at Derby are doing well and will return a better player next season. Ibe possibly will be sent out on loan too. Edited: how can I forget agent Borini and agent Assaidi! Edited January 18, 2014 by Osprey23

On the back of the draw with villa, I think pool should be more desperate to land a midfielder or a fullback rather than another attacker. The 4-4-2 formation with only Gerrard and Henderson in the engine is suicidal. Lucas may be out for while too. It is time to sell some donuts fast so that we can land some players to plug the obvious weakness in the squad...

SG used to be able to do that. but now he lost the engine that made him so formidable. Edited January 20, 2014 by Little_prince

It is time to sell some donuts fast so that we can land some players to plug the obvious weakness in the squad... Talking about the donuts, the joke was that to commemorate the historical deal, BR set up the team with a big hole in the centre against Villa. It is certainly not the end of day for Pool in terms of top 4 push but serious decision needs to be taken by BR now. Sorry to say, the toughest one would be to bench Gerrard and ditch the plan to convert him into a regista. He is never going to have the right mentality to do it. One red fan hit it on the nail on this: Gerrard's likes to attempt risky passes, those that would open up defenses if successful. When he is playing slightly upfield, his failed attempts would have lesser consequences as there are enough players behind to plug the gap and defend opponents' counters. However, if he as a regista does that, failed attempts will leave most of his team mates out of positions when the possession is conceded and put the backline in immediate pressure. We need to get the high intensity pressing in midfield back against Everton. To do that, Gerrard has to be dropped. Will BR do that? We shall see

Was looking at a tactical angle how Pool can play the 4-2-2-2 which failed flat on their face against Villa. Gerrard without the engine, can't play the forward role and lack the defensive tactical discipline to play as the DM. I also hope BR ditched the idea of converting him into a regista. The comparison with Pirlo is getting more ludicrous the more I read about it. Pirlo played there since age 22 in a league that allow regista to influence a game. Now BR wants Gerrard who is 33 to learn to play as a regista in a league that allow you little time on the ball. Can be done? I don't think so.

We shall see With Lucas likely to be out for awhile, I think BR may not have an option but to play Gerrard. But BR shouldn't experiment with the 2 cm set anymore. Either he plays 3 midfielders or 3 cb plus 2 midfielders. Otherwise, pool will be in trouble A midfield trio of 1-2: Gerrard + Allen & Henderson might potentially work. But how to fit SAS will become the next issue as BR will have to play 3 forwards.

If we have attacking full backs, I would put SAS up and have Coutinho as the 10 behind them. Alternatively, like what we did against Villa second half, Suarez to the left and Sterling right. Glen and cissokho not firing at the moment. Contin Ho is not playing to his strengths now but playing him on the wings. BR needs to decide what to do tactically and stick to it for the rest of the season. All these chops and changes are hurting the performance and we can ill afford it as the chase for 4th place is red hot at the moment.
