Applaud the letter very strongly. Most of our limits need to be revised to be more realistic.

Our expressway limits should be increased by 20km/h across the board, e.g. 70 -> 90, 80 -> 100, 90 -> 110.

The non expressway 70 roads can quite safely be increased by 10km/h to become 80 roads. This quite accurately reflects the actual speeds vehicle travel at along these stretches.

The roads currently marked 60 are a bit of a mixed bag. There are some like those along the Lornie-Road S'bawang road route that can be upped by 10 at least, making them 70 roads. In contrast, there are some in congested neighbourhood areas like Geylang that should remain at 60.

50 roads can probably be revised to 60 roads. Anything below 50 should remain that way. They're generally residential roads, it's very unsafe to allow fast traffic there.

At the same time, the ridiculous practice of "sudden" *reduce speed now* with '50' signs connecting between two quicker stretches has to be done away with. Look, people should know when to slow the F down. When there's a curve, and their vehicle can't handle it, the response should be smooth and automatic, and one doesn't need a sign to impart common sense.

And of course, I anticipate that there will be people saying that if you set the limit at 80, there will be people going at 100, etc. etc. The point is this: the system we have now is broken, as evidenced by the fact that even vans and slower moving vehicles are breaking the current limits. The TP "closes an eye" with milder transgressions, only sending out warning letters and stuff. But what they should do is to revise the limits, then enforce the new limits more strictly.

To those who think the limits might be too fast - remember that they are limits. Noone is asking you to go that fast. But if you're going to go more slowly, then have the grace to stick to the middle or left lane (except when this is a bus lane). Let the traffic travelling at the limit take the fast lane. And on expressways, even if you're doing the limit, please leave the rightmost lane for overtaking vehicles that need to transiently exceed the limit.

At the end of the day, road safety should be the prime consideration. But if we don't take into account the simple fact that cars are now much better engineered to go faster, stop shorter and handle better - we may actually make the roads more unsafe from sheer frustration. Not to mention far less enjoyable.

Good example is the 80km/h limit set on AYE (Tuas) after Jurong Town Hall. Blardy road is 3 lanes wide and almost arrow straight, but only 80km/h.

i think if i were him i will give another suggestion

I would expect all camera box being removed and singapore police shall use the Malaysia Speed Trap System (MSTS) that will include Kopi Money Fine (KMF) for Traffic Offender

one more is KJE, that strect should be 110, it took forever in 90

In general, most people drive at a speed they are comfortable with (save for some speedsters who have a higher tolerance), how to keep looking out for the round sign with 2 numbers on it? So, if everyone is consistently driving above the stipulated speed limit on a certain stretch of road, the limit is probably too low.

But for most roads, they close 1 eye for tier 1 excess. Unlikely, it would be changed. The current is such that everyone is "speeding" & its at their discretion whether to catch. imo, they want this discretionary power.

The other type of speed limits:- Those painted on the back of lorries.

To many lorry drivers, the number means nothing and they drive faster than that knowing TP seldom disturb them for speeding. See these lorries everyday on our roads.

When KPE opened, it started with speed limit of 70kmh. Needless to say, it was for safety reason. But, with MCE opens, KPE speed limit increased to 80kmh, for the reason of ‘aligning the speed’ of the two connecting roads. I laughed out loud – I want to ask LTA, ‘how the opening of MCE miraculously make KPE safe to cruise at 80kmh now? What happen to those years LTA kept insisting on 70kmh for KPE for safety reason?’ How one road can make another road safer? What is the logic?

If roads don't get clogged up, how else to substantiate the usage of ERP? [sly]

Well, it's the culture here lah. Everybody is in a rush. It's hard to keep to the 60/70kph speed limits for commercial vehicles...... They have jobs to do and deliver their cargo. That's why you always see them in a rush!!!!

Same for car drivers and Malaysian bikers as well (to avoid the causeway jam as much as possible). Always in a rush!!!!!

Rushing to get home, rushing for appointments, rush here and rush there!!!!

writer so good can drive in tazmania.

anyway, speed kills

If I'm not wrong, the result shows otherwise... Last year, there are more summon for speeding but also reduce in death from accident.. What it means? It simply mean road death are not cause by speeding purely... And speeding doesn't kill, speed with reckless driving and poor judgement kills...

But "they" will wilfully misinterpret it to mean that more intense enforcement led to a decline in traffic deaths. They can flip prata damn well with statistics.

tier 1 excess means excess 1 to 10kmh?

I received a warning letter before for driving 78kmh along Lornie

Lornie road got private residence. They may have complained to LTA about speeding motorists and all. Some kenna accident right outside their house.

Maybe also have stray monkeys pop out from Macritchie reservoir, trying to cross the road, so better to stick to the speed limit of 70kph along that stretch of road!
