no keyless is really rubbish...

quite a deal breaker, even a 1 serie also hav (even Mit i also have)

deal breakers mean different things to different people

there are many people in the market that will never buy a BMW 3 series (certain batches)  / C Class  because they are made in AFRICA and not Germany

ps: GLA is made in Germany

Neutral Newbie

my does not come with the Start/Stop

if your GLA is not from C&C , you can go ahead and zeng to your heart content

if not, you must be prepared to forgo your warranty .... is that what you are want?

like wat many old birds say. WANT TO ZENG, NOT SCARE

IF SCARE, NO ZENG

haha from C&C... but i have friends who change their rims , and lamps the car still under warranty but just that the part is not covered

Hi,

typo on my earlier post ... what i meant, is that the current GLA from C&C has the START/ STOP function, ie the engine shuts down a bit, ie air con lower volume to save fuel ...etc ... i confirm they have this feature ...

but what i want to say instead is that my current GLA has no "START" button, ie you press a button to start the engine ....

hope that helps

cheers

well, i went to install BlackVue camera, they also say will void warranty for whatever reasons ... SE can say whatever they want, but when you kena one time Hit & Run when your car is in parking mode ... (take note, the free C&C Car Camera - CANNOT RECORD when your engine is switch off - aka when you park inside carpark overnight, etc )

you will know you need to "zeng" at the right places

my 2 cents

Now sharing GLA180 Urban with wifey since Jul 17, some obsevations:

Nitpicks:
1. 50L tank very small, need to top up more frequent than our old car (Golf GT)
2. Must conscientiously check for blind spots as this car hard to see (cannot assume blind spot is always clear)

3. Driver seat a bit cramp for me (im tall 1.78 so my legs tend to bunch up against the centre console)

4. Cannot fit 2 full sized luggage at the boot (if you already have some stuff behind)

Praises:

1. Very comfy ride!

2. Looks flashy and sporty for a compact SUV

3. Still can sit 3 full sized adults at the back

4. The driver seat is very comfy (for some reason I sit in passenger seat, my back doesnt like it that much)

driving around for 2 weeks in my new GLA200 (from PI) that comes with keyless entry and start, navi, remote tailgate, panaromic roof, amg interior and exterior etc etc..

i must say that this entry-level baby merc SUV is pretty comfy.. fits my family (with 2 small kids) needs nicely.. and ok ok the pointed star is abit of an ego booster :P but i do have a couple of gripes:

1) boot space is decent (and larger than A merc) but impossible to fit 2 full-size golfbags.. unless rear seats are down :(

2) engine is 'rough' at initial start-up/moving off.. but otherwise pretty smooth at gear transitions.

3) irritating eco stop/start at default (i am not a fan of this function) and need to press a button to off it.. ok i overcome this by customising it to be off at individual setting/mode.. but the car does not always start at individual setting/mode (eg at comfort - and i would then need to press a button twice to get it to be at individual).. sighs and will continue tinkering to see if anything can be done to off this permanently :P

overall its not a perfect car in my humble opinion (but which car is perfect anyway lol!!?? especially since perfection is subjective anyway i reckon).. but i am happy to get this entry-baby merc as its within my budget and means :) will just continue enjoying my ride.. till my next ride :)

okies for the 'rough' engine during initial startup/moving off.. or rather the delayed gear transition to second gear - as the first gear just winds itself past 3000 RPM before changing.. i realised that its due to my usual habit of starting car and immediately drive off :P

i followed wifey's advice to let car 'warmup' for abt 10 seconds, then drive off.. tried it for a couple of days and all is good and gear transitions smooth at startup:) no more delayed gear transition from first to second!

personally i cannot understand that in this day and age.. still gotta wait for engine to 'warm up'.. oh well - engines are still mechanical pieces of metal i guess.. and moreover gla200 engines are not the crème de la crème of merc engines.. just a bread-and-butter normal merc engine :P

I agree that the thick B-pillar poses a huge blind spot as your sitting position, due to your height, places you directly beside it. I am of similar height as you and I face the same issue. Only way to mitigate it is to push out the angle of the side mirror as much as possible and to "re-train" oneself to turn and glance through the rear side window. [;)]

I don't start and wait for 10secs though. I just turn the key, wait for the needles to do its sweep, and then start the car (use finger to turn off Eco mode) and drive away whilst keeping the revs below 3k rpm till the engine properly warms up.  [:p] Been my routine for the past 2+ years.

Happy motoring!

I am sure you are aware that this car has a dual clutch 7G-DCT transmission, which is actually an automated manual gearbox controlled by the ECU which program the transmission and engine to behave a certain way when temperature is at certain level. All these semantics are to ensure the longevity of the components in the car. Of course, just like any programming codes, most of them are not perfect and can be optimized for individual liking, and weather conditions. Unfortunately, this is how the car behaves. Not many people's cup of tea when most prefer to start the engine, engage to D, release parking brakes, and drive off. I bet you also know that turbo charged engines require cooling down after spirited drive, before shutting the engine off. And not many people like this too.

This car is a variant of the W176 A class. Its not designed ground up. Therefore, there's bound to be lots of compromises.

Even though engine is off, ECU will turn on the fan if temp exceed the threshold. That's what my MIni do even though i let the engine runs for 3 mins before shutting down.

yup very true. im driving the A200 while my wife driving the GLA180, When we go up north I will be the driver so I can attest to your comment that the GLA is A class on silts.

A class ride more harsh but pickup is faster.

GLA ride more comfy but more for cruising, but must watch out for the blind spots.

Quick questions to all GLA owners:

Does anyone have those magnetic sunshades for the side windows of the GLA?

Not the ones that need to tape some clips to the windows before securing the sunshades but just magnetic sunshades where you place them on the windows and it magnetically stays on.

Would like to hear some suggestions as I have asked "CustomFit Laser Shades" and they don't have it for the GLA.

I hope someone can help as I start to see more GLAs on the road...

Many thanks in advance!

We've had the GLA200 for almost a year now and I find it very tight. I'm 1.8m and after adjusting the seat, my thighs still almost rub against the steering wheel. It's fine for my wife though. My teenage sons also find the back seat a bit squishy for them. I also find that the engine feels a little harsh when moving off from a stop.

Before you bought you should hv known.

Its a small B&B car.

You get more space and save more money buying a Vezel.
