  1. Did a search and I didn't find any owners' thread, so here goes.. Some links I found useful: External workshops: http://www.mycarforum.com/topic/2675115-independent-workshop-for-mercedes-benz/?hl=mercedes Freebies that you can expect from Merc: (with contributions from @heman75) 1. 3k service credit. anything more depend your bargain and model. JS front back camera sure give 3. insurance some loyalty discount for next two year renewal. 4. 3D matt 5. solar film 6. some car essential package inclusive nano coat. 7. welcome pack.. laptop bag. 8. some amount of overtrade (feel free to add more to the list)
  2. Hi all, some of you might know that i used to drive a Lexus Gs450h , bought 2nd hand 7yrs old with 117K km. Although i did choose lexus for reliability , it gave me 2 big big issues one being the hybrid battery and another being the engine blew up, hence have decided to scrap the car. with the lexus , i have learnt a few things : - 3.5 road tax can die - horsepower not worth in SG, although car is silky smooth - dont buy a old hybrid car hence, I've been looking around for the next car that will not give me so much problems ( at least not so expensive ones) and have come across a friend that drives a W204 facelift model. so far since day 1 of owning the car, the car had no major problems other than a few cheap wear and tears that were very minor. anyone can share any opinion regarding the reliability of the w204 model, buying 2nd hand , and also, after the expiry of COE, will it be worthwhile to renew COE on this model? i have yet to test drive the car, but overall looks and interior quality are pretty nice IMO any opinions regarding is appreciated, or even other car suggestions are welcome too. looking at c180 or c200 model
  3. And now, the ongoing competition is to see who has the largest... ... screen. Automakers seem to have moved on from the horsepower wars and are now focusing their attention on a new kind of contest. Judging from car launches in recent years, it looks like there’s a race for the title of the largest infotainment screen fitted to an automobile. Mercedes-Benz is committed to taking part in this race; just look at the humongous center screen that the all-new 2020 S-Class will have. These are the very first spy shots of the luxury sedan’s portrait-style center screen which is the size of China. We don’t know exactly how big it is, but since the digital instrument panel is wider than on the current S-Class, the center display is at least as wide and significantly longer. From this distance, it seems even bigger than the iPad Pro 12.9, the world’s largest tablet computer. Look closely and you’ll notice some physical buttons at the bottom of the screen. They control the driving modes, hazard lights, volume, on/off, and some other functions we can’t decipher. Most functions will be accessible via the center touchscreen. Besides the digital instrument panel and the infotainment display, the rest of the cabin is still covered. On the outside, it’s pretty clear that the S-Class prototype features the production headlights and taillights. However, their shapes remain unknown given the heavy camouflage. The 2020 S-Class will arrive next year with Level 3 semi-autonomous driving tech, which is a step above Level 2 systems such as Tesla’s Autopilot and Cadillac’s Super Cruise. The flagship sedan will reportedly feature hybrid-only versions using the latest 3.0-liter and 2.9-liter straight-six gasoline and diesel engines. The PHEV versions are expected to offer all-electric driving ranges of up to 62 miles (100 km). The S-Class is also said to debut a new 4Matic all-wheel-drive system with a fully variable torque split between the axles, as well as an active suspension that will work together with a 48-volt system and a stereo camera scanning the road ahead. Besides the S-Class, Mercedes is also developing an all-electric EQ S luxury sedan that will use a new MEA platform different from the S-Class’ updated MRA architecture.
  4. A good walk through of the grille evolution in Mercedes for the past 120 years. I am particularly amazed by the very forward looking grille on the 1954 300SL, which make a come back only about 60 years later. Merc's front-end has gone a long way after 12 decades 1900 - 2016 1900 - EV Era The grille is the easiest way to discern a car's make. It serves as the face of the automobile, which gives it an identity amid the sea of automotive brands on the planet. But unlike the human face, vehicle grilles go younger with time, evolving and conforming to what the car needs and what is allowed beyond the limits of functionalities. That's exactly the case with Mercedes-Benz's grille. It has immensely evolved ever since Wilhelm Maybach fitted his invention, the honeycomb radiator, to the Mercedes 35 PS in 1900. The radiator grille was designed to solve the cooling problem of internal combustion engines then, but ultimately commenced the era of vehicle grilles. In 1931, the arrival of the Mercedes-Benz 170 changed everything. For the first time, the radiator was mounted behind the grille for protection, which was part of the vehicle's hood. This gave birth to the iconic chrome grille, which not only served as a protection for the radiator but also as an identifier, together with the three-pointed star emblem. From then on, Mercedes continued evolving the chrome grille for decades. In the 1950s, Merc introduced a new standalone grille design with the 300 SL "Gullwing" and the smaller 190 SL roadster. It's known internally as the "sports car face." The horizontal slats became a hallmark among subsequent Mercedes vehicles. In 2007, Mercedes started offering grille choices to customers depending on the trim level. They can either go classic (Classic and Elegance) or sporty (Avantgarde), which was offered in both C-Class and E-Class. With the electric vehicle era peeking around the corner, Mercedes-Benz grilles are here to stay but with a different function from the protective radiator cover in the past. Without the need for a radiator, the German marque moves on to a Black Panel grille for its EQ range, which serves as a perfect surface for hidden but indispensable sensors. Here are some of the grilles from the past... And the future. So which is your favorite?
  5. Is car blocking black cars the new trend? Apparently it is, because after the infamous Causeway license-plate-plucking incident, another copycat comes fast on its heels! This time, in the heart of one of the seediest neighbourhoods in Singapore, and in broad daylight! You can watch the video here: Fuyoh, Mercedes Vs Woman Wow, what could have possibly possessed her to do that? She should have known that it is quite frowned upon (in general) to try to block moving vehicles. It is also quite dangerous anyway. We investigated and apparently the series of events went like this: The woman approached the driver with an aggressive stance. Cue hostile body language. She jabbed her finger right into his face. Definitely very confrontational. The woman was also seen striding off momentarily to confer with a woman of smaller stature, but it is unsure to us the nature of their discussion. The driver seems to want no part of this, and at some point, gets fed up and tries to brush her off. He then got into his car. It doesn't stop there! Undeterred, the woman planted herself in front of the car, thinking that it would stop him. Unfortunately and expectedly, it did not. Some fun facts; we did some research and the brake horsepower of the vehicle (which we found to be a Mercedes Benz C180 Kompressor A) turned out to be: The brake horsepower of a human, or the woman would equate to: The car is exerting over a 150 times of the brake horsepower she has! Well, she's definitely very plucky for trying, we will give her that... Eventually, the force of the impending car proved too great for her and she was pushed to the side, where she raised her arms in a show of protest, before slinking away. The public opinion was ruthless. As soon as the video made its rounds on the internet, there was an outpouring of comments. Naturally, there came the expected comparisons to a certain carplate-ripping incident: Well, they are quite similar! Safe, indeed. Haha! Well, the females at MyCarForum would beg to differ, OK! Just as well, there were more reasonable comments: Whereas this person provided a very good joke about the possible circumstances regarding this situation... Oh my! Moral of the story If anything is to be taken away from this incident, it is that you should never be deliberately using your body to block the path of a moving vehicle. It could get you injured, or even worse... Have your pictures plastered over the online walls of shame. We'll be eagerly awaiting the backstory of this car-blocking lady, however. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 6. The new Mercedes-Benz T-Class: compact city van for families, active leisure enthusiasts and work Stuttgart. Mercedes-Benz Vans is provider of vehicles in the small-, mid- and large-size van segments, fulfilling all customer requirements for a spacious space. Now, a small van platform will be used to create a new vehicle which is tailored to the needs of families whilst also being a suitable companion for active leisure enthusiasts. Like the V-Class, which is successfully positioned in the midsize segment, Mercedes-Benz Vans will also be offering a small van for private customers from the first half of 2022. The class designation of this new model is "T-Class." "With the new Mercedes-Benz T-Class, we will offer a vehicle which makes it possible for families and those with active pastimes to step into the Mercedes-Benz world. These customers seek attractive and practical compact vehicles – and it is precisely these demands which the new T-Class fulfils", says Marcus Breitschwerdt, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans. "With the T-class’s new layout and design we achieve a fusion of functionality and desirability", says Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer Daimler Group. "With our unique design philosophy of Sensual Purity we create an attractive family companion being the T-Class inspiring with its design, proportions and its perceived value." Clear membership of the Mercedes-Benz family As a completely new development, the T-Class will be clearly discernible at first glance as a member of the Mercedes-Benz family and will feature unmistakeably typical characteristics of the brand with the three-pointed star. Especially in terms of design, value, safety and connectivity, the new vehicle will bear the DNA of Mercedes-Benz. New class, new concept The private-customer market is the focus of the completely newly developed Mercedes-Benz T-Class. The T-Class will meet the needs of families and leisure-oriented people at an attractive price-value ratio. The letter T stands for efficient room concepts and is thus perfectly suited as a model designation for compact family vans bearing the three-pointed star. The new Mercedes-Benz T-Class offers a large amount of space and is suited to a range of different uses, including passenger transportation as a reference within sharing services – all while not compromising on comfort. The wide-opening sliding doors on both the left and right-hand sides of the vehicle as an example allow easy and comfortable access to the interior. Alongside conventional drive systems, there will be also a fully electric version. Mercedes-Benz Vans in the small van segment In the small van segment, Mercedes-Benz Vans has been represented by the commercially positioned Citan since 2012. In August last year, the Vans division announced a successor to the compact urban delivery van, together with a fully-electric variant. Based on this small van platform, two vehicles will be created: while the Mercedes-Benz Citan is a no-compromise vehicle tailored to the requirements of commercial customers, the Mercedes-Benz T-Class is primarily focused towards private customers. The T-Class and the Citan will be established in cooperation with Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi.
  7. A Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe has been caught doing 'Boom Boom Boom' noises in one of the HDB carparks along Hougang Street 61 early in the morning last night. This has not gone well for him as videos of him revving his car that has been tuned to make "pop and crackle" noises has gone viral. s.MP4 According to unnamed sources, it seemed that the green CLA Coupe owner has been approached by home owners staying nearby for the noise pollution and a fight ensued. The police was called in and the CLA owner looked like he has been charged for causing hurt a.k.a Penal Code 323 as we can see from the Whatsapp screenshots. He was intoxicated too but was not charged for drink-driving as his female friend was at the wheel.
  8. Mercedes has been coming out with several new variants using smaller (sub 2.0L) engine for its passenger vehicle lineup of late and there seems to be no end to the trend, in view of tighter emissions and fuel economy requirements by EU and other countries. I have to admit that I am surprised when I learnt about the "new" C160 at the beginning of this year and E180 shortly after that, both having a 1.5L inline 4 turbo-charged unit under it hood, producing 129ps / 210Nm and 156ps / 250Nm respectively. And the naive me thought these are the limits. I am wrong, as the CLS260 has just been introduced in China, and spotted the same 1.5L inline 4 unit under the hood, but producing 184ps / 280Nm this time with a help of the mild hybrid setup. Coupled with a 9 speed automatic transmission, it can accelerate to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km/h. Fuel consumption is rated at 7.2 L/100 km (13.89 Km/L), which is decent to say the least, for a car of this size (~5m in length) and weight (~1.8 ton). While the spec look very impressive for this entry variant, but taking into consideration that the selling price is unlikely to be more than $30K different from the CLS350 due to COE, VES and other vehicle taxes, while saving in road tax is "negligible" since the CLS350 is actually powered by a 2.0L turbo engine (instead of 3.0L as many have expected), it is not a good deal after all. What is your take? Will we be seeing a 1.5L S280 soon, or even a GLS300? I sincerely hope it will not happen. BTW, rumor mill is saying that the next C43 AMG and E53 AMG will be using a 2.0L unit... ...
  9. Hi guys, considering a preowned mercedes. Any recommendations for workshops? thanx in advance
  10. Bro Mustank, specially for you. Since it is from MB, sure got Diesel option. Daimler's Mercedes-Benz arm continues the development work of their first mid-sized pickup truck and our spies were there to catch them in the act. Just like the Renault Alaskan, Mercedes’ new pickup truck is based on the underpinnings of Nissan’s NP300 Navara and will reportedly enter the market under the GLT moniker, starting from 2017. The car you see in the photos is a test mule still carrying a lot of the Nissan’s body panels but we can clearly notice the wider front and rear wheel arches. Unlike other re-badged examples we’ve seen, the GLT is being developed and designed solely from Daimler to meet the specific needs of its customer base in Europe, Australia, South Africa and Latin America. The company gave us a good idea of how the final car will look like by releasing a teaser sketch image last year, along with the promise of high levels of utility combined with “the comfort, safety, and design of a Mercedes-Benz passenger car”. Mercedes still considers offering their new pickup in the US and if they do, the GLT will probably be made at Nissan’s factory in Mexico to avoid tarrifs. The company is also going to build it in Renault’s Argentinian facilities and at the Nissan plant in Spain for the regional markets respectively. Expect a range of four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, with entry-level models getting a six-speed manual and the rest a seven-speed automatic gearbox, with power sent to all four wheels permanently.
  11. We always hear the phrase "power is nothing without control" In this latest blog post, we now can show you exactly what that phrase means. Shared furiously among many Whatapp chats is a video of a recent accident involving a Nissan R35 GT-R losing control in one of the tunnels of the CTE. The matt silver GT-R which does not look stock at all, should be producing quite a bit more than the stock 480bhp (an remap will easily bring the power figures near 600bhp). It can be seen barreling along the tunnel on 11 July 2020 at quite a high speed before losing it all and smashing into the rear of a Mercedes-Benz CLS350. What did you think made the driver lose control of his AWD GT-R? Could it be a case of malfunction on the car that caused the car to go bonkers? Let us in the comment box!
  12. A video showing a white car failing to check for oncoming traffic while doing a right turn has gone viral. Unfortunately, the consequences were unpleasant as a Foodpanda motorcyclist was killed in the process. The motorcyclist, a 41-year-old deliveryman from Malaysia, was unconscious when help arrived and eventually succumbed to his injuries at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. He was reported to have been thrown 30 metres due to the impact and suffered brain injuries as a result. According to Stomp, the accident took place at the junction of Toh Guan Road and Boon Lay Way at 7.58pm on the 10th of March. The 36-year old Mercedes-Benz driver has been arrested for dangerous driving causing death. There has been a debate that discretionary right-turn junctions should be abolished as there has been an increase in accidents related to it. Could this signal an end to such junctions?
  13. Saw him at Simpang Bedok few weeks ago. Some aunties recognise him and took photos with him. And then saw him drive off in an Altis. He migrated to singapore already?? No wonder never see in TVB shows already
  14. 2019 Mercedes Benz AMG GT 4 door coupe unveiled http://www.motortrend.com/news/2019-mercedes-amg-gt-four-door-coupe-first-look/ The Mercedes-AMG GT S is a truly fantastic car. It looks great, the interior is gorgeous, and if you drive it hard, it’ll leave you grinning like an idiot for days. Leave the race track behind, and the GT S will also devour long stretches of highway like nobody’s business. If you need a back seat, though, you’re out of luck. The GT S is a true two-seater. At least you used to be out of luck. If Mercedes-AMG is to be believed, the new GT 4-Door Coupe is a legitimate four-door sports car. Design-wise, the GT 4-Door Coupe looks more like the new CLS than the coupe it shares a name with, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The redesigned CLS is a good looking car, and AMG’s designers did a great job of making sure the four-door GT looks like a proper AMG. Even with unique headlights, a stretched cabin, and a proportionally shorter hood, no one is going to mistake this sedan for a run-of-the-mill Mercedes. Even better, the four-door GT retains the original GT’s rear hatch for an added dose of practicality. Inside, it’s a similar story. The four-door GT’s cabin borrows lots of styling from other modern Mercedes sedans, but it does get a few unique design cues. The wide center console, for example, looks like an updated version of the one found in the original GT coupe. Depending on which package buyers choose, the four-door GT’s interior can either look like a luxury sedan with its quilted leather and wood trim, or it can double down on the sportiness with carbon fiber trim, yellow seatbelts, contrast stitching, and sports seats. European buyers will have the option of a four-passenger or five-passenger version, but in the U.S., only the four-seat configuration will be available. For most buyers, the four-door GT’s performance will likely be the most important factor, and at least on paper, AMG definitely delivers. All versions get torque-vectoring all-wheel drive and a nine-speed AMG automatic transmission, and there are three different levels of power. The base version, the GT 53, gets a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six good for 429 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque. Like the CLS 53, the GT 53 uses a mild hybrid system that contributes 21 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, allowing it to hit 60 mph in an estimated 4.4 seconds. Step up to the mid-level GT 63, and the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 makes 577 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque, good for a 3.3-second run to 60 mph, according to AMG. The GT 63 S tops the lineup with 630 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque from the same V-8. It’s also the quickest of the three, needing only 3.1 seconds to hit 60 mph. Keep going, and the GT 63 S has a top speed of 195 mph, 21 mph faster than the GT 53’s max of 174 mph. To make sure the four-door GT could hold its own on a race track, AMG says it engineered an exceptionally stiff chassis, even using a rear anti-roll bar from the GT R. The six-cylinder version uses steel springs and adaptive dampers, and the V-8s get AMG’s multi-chamber air suspension for even sportier handling. The all-wheel-drive system is rear-biased, and on the GT 63 S, it even includes a standard drift mode that completely disengages the front wheels. Drift mode is also available as an option on the regular GT 63. Both 63s come standard with a limited-slip differential and rear-wheel steering, as well. For even better handling, AMG gave the GT an active aero package. Up front, engineers borrowed the GT R’s electronically controlled louvers to manage airflow, while a multi-stage rear spoiler adjusts itself depending on how the car is being driven. In a straight line, the spoiler lowers to minimize wind resistance, but in a corner, it raises to increase downforce and improve handling. No information on pricing is available at the moment, but expect Mercedes to announce that closer to the GT’s on-sale date. For the GT 63 and 63 S, that’s scheduled to be early next year, with the GT 53 not going on sale until mid-2019.
  15. Avantgarde trims has been introduced for choice since the W204 C class and now the W205 range. It has also started for the W213 E class. In terms of design, the most obvious difference is the grille design. The Avantgarde has become a popular choice among recent Mercedes Benz cars buyers, offered on top of the once default and familiar Elegance front face. Currently only the C and E class offer such trim choices. Avantgarde front grille. Front grille is mostly focused on the big tri-star logo in the middle of the grille. Background design is normally the double wings design and recently the more beautifully designed diamond grille. It is also featured in all the AMG range models, except the S class AMG models, e.g. S63, S65. The grandfather of the Avantgarde grille is probably started from the gullwing 300SL. Elegance The most familiar front face throughout Mercedes Benz history, spanning to most of its sedan range for the past decades. This familiar face gives an identity to the brand, unmistakably a Mercedes Benz, with a car of such a front. It's design is basically a grille crossed horizontally with slim chromed wings, and a centered lined chrome to make the grille look symmetrical, simple and elegant. The top if the chrome rimmed grille finishes with a small mercedes Benz classic logo,... ... and a protruding tri start ornament. These has become a classic design language for many Mercedes Benz models for decades. W204 C class W205 C class W213 E class With the emergence of the Avantgarde grille design for more and more Mercedes Benz models, and gaining popularity among buyers, would the Elegance be pharsed out in the near future for all Mercedes Benz cars? Which do you prefer?

  17. Hi everyone, per topic, was at Stuttgart for a holiday. Per title, will be sharing some of my experiences during the trip. All photos were taken with my iPhone camera, so I do apologise if the quality is not up to standard. Nothing eventful on the first day, arrived at Frankfurt and took a train down to the main station of Stuttgart, approx. 1hr 20min. For those who are unfamiliar, look out for the 'Long distance trains' sign at the airport, which will bring you to the platform, which looks something like this Reached Stuttgart main station, rather old building, constructed in the early 1910s till early 1930s I believe. the entrance to the ticket hall headed to my airbnb apartment thereafter, theres a vantage point nearby where you can get quite a nice view of the city center will update the rest as soon as I can, cheers

  20. I was introduced to the cars in showroom and salesman was professional but Little did he knew that I read in between the lines of what was said.... Did u know that the showroom is "split" into 2? On one side is the true DNA of Mercedes benz, rear wheel drive, luxuriously finished, made in Germany, the c class, e class ..... and above. On the other side are the "cheap" ones, meant to compete with Japanese. A & B class and their variants. To cut cost, it's front wheel drive, made in cheaper countries, quite a lot more plastic being used in the car etc. Target market are the "cannot afford MB customers" but die die want to buy young buyers. Just find it amusing. Anyway MB, are generally well engineered and SAFE. 3 financial questions to clear b4 buying luxurious car: 1) Protection: Hv u got adequate insurance ( life, hospital, accident, critical illness) 2) Retirement: Do u hv enough to retire (bet u don even know how much u need) 3) Investment & savings: what is your networth, do u make regular investments. .... and legacy planning if u consider bequest for yr children If people plan financially, there will far less imprudent splurge on luxurious cars.
