Hey guys, im driving a vios and for the past few weeks, my car will start to hesitate especially when i accelerate hard from stop. The feeling is like it will pull you back and then regain back its power. It will not happen if i accelerate slowly. Thanks for any help.

Fuel blockage, most likely. Faulty fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, injectors, injection map. Or worse gearbox. If you frequently pump msia oil 97 and below, your fuel filter will choke in no time.

Your car is old and very tired liao.. Why need to floor hard? Supersprint to the next traffic light?? [dizzy]

I did not floor the pedal. Just accelerate slightly harder.

It could be the ignition coil...

I recently also faced this problem (but i driving Mit Lancer)...

Accelerate up till 80km/h or more and the car seems to suffer from a slight pull back with bit of stuttering but slow speed is fine...

Diagnosed that one out of the two ignition coil is spoil... I kiasu a bit and changed both... The car is fine after that....

Accelerate hard from stop but not referring to flooring to pedal?? A bit hard to understand... Cld be u got used to the acceleration till diminishing returns set in... It's time to add some poison or change car liaoz... Normal..

Ok, let me elaborate my issue again to prevent from further misunderstandings. Im usually a light footer and most of the time my throttle position is at about 20-30%. There are times when i need to increase my acceleration to 30-50% position due to traffic conditions. That is when the car will start to have hiccup/jerking feell when i accelerate from stop. Hope i have made myself clear. Thanks.

misfiring......change the SP and ignition coil.

My plugs are new but not the ignition coils. I have no issue when comes to idling.

I only have the jerk issue when i accelerate from stop. Cruising no issue. Will have the coils checked. Thanks.

a soon to be konked out coil pack would perform normally but will misfire upon load. If possible, get a similar car and change out all 4. This could be it.....

Is your air filter clear. If it is choked up, the car can behave this way too!

Sounds like ignition coils. If the vehicle has more than 110K km on the clock, you should replace them. Not sure how much for Toyota, but it is about $110 each for Volvo.

If you want to save some money, take out individual coils (one at a time) from the plug and attached a spare spark plug and rev the engine. If no sparks or intermittent sparks, then that coil is gone. Just replace that coil. But usually others will fail within months.

Or check engine fault codes - it will tell you which engine misfire.

Good Luck!

Unlikely - air filter has negligible impact on the engine, not like this anyway - jerking/hiccups.
