What to do after driving through flood?

Was on my way home during the heavy down pour just now in the late evening, drove past a flooded road at commonwealth area. Flood was around knee height, drove past and traveled for another 15 mins before reaching home.

Is there anything I need to do after driving past a flood? like ensure no water goes inside the engine, etc.

If water goes into the engine you will instantly know.

If you didn't install what cold air intake and cut a big hole on your front bumper you have nothing to worry about.

If you are a lady who wears long skirt while driving thru floods and the skirt is 'caught' by the door whith part of it dangling outsie, pls check your skirt coz it will be wet after going thru the flood. Just kidding [grin]

Try not to drive tru flood too often, bad for wheel bearings.

I thought bearings are pre-coated with grease or teflon?

Nothing you need to do, really. Just let the car dry. Most cars can handle knee level flood unless like one bro said you go and install a CAI that's at the fog lamp level.

But something related... I saw 3 accidents over a short drive just now, and I also encountered a few drivers who JAM BRAKE upon hitting a puddle of water.

PLEASE don't JAM BRAKE. Apart from letting water into your exhaust (and potentially damaging your cat), you will lose control and go sideways, and I'm pretty sure that's what happened in all the 3 accidents I saw because there's always one of the car in the accident that is sideways and always near a big puddle.

Just slow down and move trough the puddle. And don't tailgate.

Not only wheel bearings. Compressor and alternator if they are mounted low will be affected. Try very hard never to let the car swim. It just kills everything faster even if you don't see any immediate failures.
