Turbocharged

stop-start is pushed by the tree huggers.

reduce environmental impact by any means.

I read that the next similar thing to come is shutting down the engine while the car is coasting

reminded me a taxi driver, he told me it save fuel when he accelerate and coast with leg off the throttle and shift to neutral then re-engage again when he needs to accelerate

i still think electric is the way to go once they are able to solve the battery problem.

1) quick and ability to retain stored power for a long time.

2) light weight and low cost to produce

3) capacity that is enough to run aircon throughout the whatever km before the next charge.

4) ideally can be easily unplug and bring home to charge using the 13 amps sso. hahaha

Stop-start function is very irritating for both driver and passenger. Wonder if such function will become a standard function in every make/model?

Depends on model, for some newer car, the start stop transition is seamless. You will not feel the transition. So it is possible to have a smooth ride without rider or driver noticing that the car is transiting between start stop. That's how technology improvement make it possible.

I reckon in times to come such feature wiLl be standard just like airbag. Never use will like it. Used will hate it. Hahaha

Anyway my company two new car (a volvo and lexus) to be registered 1st qtr this year all come with such feature as standard. Anyway these two are all High end models.

Whenever the engine stop at traffic light, for that 1 minute the car feel like Super luxury car, no vibration no engine noise at all.

I want this system in my car also donât have. kah motor have very little cars with hybrid or this idle stop system.

Mine auto-stop transition not so obvious, still it took me a while to get use to it. I support this function as it will help to reduce road emissions, some of our houses or offices are built so close to traffic, so we can have cleaner air if all vehicles have these in future. Edited by Odyssey2011

it is the battery. hybrid battery can continue all functions when engine is running. the rest they cut off ac and blow air only. hybrid no need to start engine even when you move because battery can drive it. that is why i said, electric ok but wait for battery to achieve this lor.

Your company so rich, buy volvo and lexus as company car ah?! Anyway, i guess such feature will be seamless and would not feel irritating for driver and rider if the car is those high end de.

12 sec is quite short. Mine is never shorter than a minute, maybe my battery bigger.

Hybrid already works like this.

Foot off pedal, coasting, slowing down (or braking), engine is cut off, battery is charged (by regen braking).

That's why you don't see stop-start advertised in hybrid, it's already part of the engine system.

So from this, i don't see there is a major issue on reliability of the auto-stop-start, the auto-start-stop is only a smaller version to the hybrid car which also have frequent engine off and on every time.
