So from this, i don't see there is a major issue on reliability of the auto-stop-start, the auto-start-stop is only a smaller version to the hybrid car which also have frequent engine off and on every time.

exactly....dunno wat the fuss over SS is all abt

my ex F10, 5.3yrs, not one issue on it.  No change in starter motor, engine, battery  bla bla.....it is intended to work the way it is

ppl need to revisit their old thinking.  MCF had a session on this in 2014 i think, at Bosch in SM and they explained the issues well....

hybrid is a totally different system.

not quite the same to compare apple to orange.

they use a motor-gen and other sophisticated system.

Turbocharged

Hybrid already works like this.

Foot off pedal, coasting, slowing down (or braking), engine is cut off, battery is charged (by regen braking).

That's why you don't see stop-start advertised in hybrid, it's already part of the engine system.

my car has a smart alternator though it is not a hybrid car, it will take those energy wasting opportunities like you mentioned to charge the battery

most of the current ASS equiped engine still using the old fashion starter to crank the engine, the process is very crude comparing to the hybrid engine

The next generation ASS will use a starter/generator combo that replace both the starter motor and alternator and works like a smaller version of hybrid car like you mentioned

The full technical explanation of why you don't need to worry about starter motors wearing out prematurely due to start-stop systems.

They had shown an old Ford 2012, and had mentioned the system don't use 'traditional' starter motors at least many years ago. Can share with us which car maker and model in Singapore is still using that traditional starter motors?

Twincharged

So wanna ask. Is the start stop system similar to a manual car stalling at every stop?

Just curious cos the salesman say no damage will be done to the car with each start stop but I dunno if it's sales talk or something else.

Correct, for Mazda case,no need Starter Motor....even for Cars that need Starter ,the Starters already "Beef" up for this purpose.

Don't really care about the life span of the SS components, or the fuel savings if any....

I just hate the "shiver" each "start" transmit into the cabin.

Had the GS450h, the SS is built-in to the hybrid system. Cannot even choose to disable the function. Even with the excellent lexus soundproofing and body damping, can still feel the shiver. Drove it for 6yrs, got so used to the shiver, when i changed car that allows to disable the SS, it is heaven sent.

It is programmed into my customized drive mode profile. I still have to toggle it to my preferred drive mode each time I start the car after 4hrs.

- Sports engine/transmission

- Sports steering

- ASS OFF

- Aircon Comfort

Now is second nature...
